So, what's this scuttlebutt about a Quinn Martin set from La-La Land?

Someone mentioned Barnaby Jones. Some Invaders cues would be sweet.

More details, please. smile

New 2 CD set, the music of Quinn Martin to be released in May by La La Land Records featuring music from many of the TV productions from the 60s/70s small-screen icon, which included Barnaby Jones, Cannon, The F.B.I., The Fugitive, The Invaders, The Streets of San Francisco, Twelve O'Clock High, and the anthology series Quinn Martin's Tales of the Unexpected, as well as several movies-of-the-week (his only theatrical feature was The Mephisto Waltz). Composers represented on this set will be Bruce Broughton, Jerry Goldsmith, Dave Grusin, John Parker, Nelson Riddle, Lalo Schifrin, David Shire, Duane Tatro and Patrick Williams.

Thanks. That's an instant purchase for me. Dominic Frontiere should be all over this set.

Sad to me Charles Thaxton won't get to listen to this release. frown

MV said there would be future volumes, so I'm hoping the above info is not accurate. There's no way all of those series and composers can be decently represented on only two cds, and LLL releasing a "TV's Greatest Hits" would be laughable (although Varese has done one). Even focusing on one series with the composers named would be inadequate, but better than the sampler implied.

Charles no doubt has not a Best of, volume 1, but the entire catalog of music he ever wanted to listen to.

Oh, you mean he went to "Soundtrack Heaven"? If that were true, we'd all kill ourselves.

big grin I'm sure it doesn't work that way. Otherwise people would be offing themselves to get to "real" heaven...

Well, he only wrote music for two QM shows (one of which isn't CBS-owned, so...

I've been rewatching THE INVADERS and there's a few composers who scored episodes. I wonder how much music Dom composed for the series (aside from the pilot and reused later).

Yeah, maybe not much. He even reused Outer Limits music in the INVADERS pilot.

On a slight tangent (Spelling Production rather than Quinn Martin), the same INVADERS effects and Frontiere music was used in a decent scifi flick THE LOVE WAR (1970). But LLL probably inquired with him about his recordings and would have mentioned this if he had it.

I need a volunteer here -- someone who has Volume 1 and is familiar with or is willing to go through all the tracks to Schifrin's score from "Most Wanted", compared to a suite of score ripped from various episodes that have the theme or sound like original pieces, but are not from any credited scores by other composers. I do not have the suite ready at this time -- just seeking in advance.

Sadly, I was never in a financial situation to get the CD and there is only one cue from the set on YouTube (otherwise I'd have done the comparison myself).
