First we had the Ligo detector results to clang the black hole bell loudly. The main point is this: black holes were never ever something humans could intuit whilst fighting Woolly Mammoths. Somehow, humans managed to conjure up in pure imagination something isomorphic to an entity that may very well actually exist out there in the void. And they did not do it with a starship Enterprise to boldly go where no man has gone before. Hell, they did it with both feet planted firmly on the ground.
This sort of prediction goes well beyond biblical tales or anything else like it. This puts Einstein in a ball game of biblical scale prophecy right here in modern times, where if true, is tantamount to a burning bush from right out of nowhere in plain sight. It's like, this is where the real truth lies. Does anyone else dig it? Does the power of thought compel you . . .?
Yes, I agree .... this is a big moment in the demonstrability of science (well, mostly of math I don't understand) and the power of reason to actually understand. It's breathtaking.
I'm not quite sure what you're saying here or what equivalency you're making. Einstein didn't make prophecy's and quite frankly that is a huge discredit to his genius. He extrapolated theories based on science and mathematics, not make fantastical predictions based off of fantasy.

The idea of a black hole has been around for a hundred years or more. That idea came out of the mathematics used to model gravity, pushed to extremes.
People aren't panicking in the streets over the "sight" of a black hole - except maybe flat-Earthers. The image looks a lot like what was predicted. It's nice to see confirmation - very nice - but it's not some miraculous revelation. It's the result of a lot of hard work done by a lot of very clever people.
And regarding your last paragraph - ease up a little on whatever it is you're taking (unless it was satire). I think we could benefit from a little more rational thinking in this world at the moment.
BTW this first ever image of a Black Hole is a bit of a misdemeanor. I believe the "imaging" of said black hole was done with radio waves. Thus the image we are seeing is a representation of what we believe we would see via light waves.
Thanks, guys. With the LIGO results, this does look to be quite significant by way of apparent confirmation, though not definitive proof, black holes actually do exist in Nature - another brick in the wall.
It's interesting that other than man made forms of legitimacy and it's negation, namely through imperfect systems of law, the age of science is the great enabler for distinguishing that which is ultimately true from that which is ultimately false. There is no such distinction in biblical texts other than general aesthetic notions of what is right and what is wrong according to issues relating to local morality and custom.
Science is the bastion where the ultimate knowledge of right and wrong has some chance of finally becoming properly delineated from out of the ether. This is primarily what I meant by introducing a scale of comparability that has biblical proportions and applied to our modern day world. I see Einstein in my personal world appraisal as being amongst the first modern day prophets of science to enunciate the deepest levels of truth and consistency the human mind can conjure that go beyond merely human biased existence.
What do you think is next? Maybe picking out the black holes dominating the heart of quasars?
