I must be missing something. What is wrong with me? For some strange reason, I don't find any joy or purpose in reading a new thread, researching whether there's a previous thread on the subject and then tripping over myself to point out to the unsuspecting poster that said duplicate exists. Why oh why can't I feel the rush, the buzz, the kick?

I am going to make a point of trying it next time to find out exactly what I am missing.

Tell me about it. I've been doing this for 23 years here on FSM (Geezez, just writing that number makes me a bit nauseous). But I've become more 'sloppy' recently; I don't care as much as I used to. I would be delighted if you took over.

Get out of town, the first new redundant post and the magnificent obsession takes over. It's in that lutefisk laced blood of yours. You'll come up with links in no time.

Actually Thor, I don't care and never have. I've started duplicate threads before (take a look on the Gen Discussion side today lol) but it's never intentional or from lack of checking first. This board has a lousy search option so I try and then say wth and post my thread, usually about some wonderful score I have discovered or re-discovered. I don't see the need to jump on it right away. The most tactful way I have experienced is when someone drops the link to the previous thread into the new thread and encourages the member who started the newest thread to "check it out."

So Thor, you'll just have to keep the job. Although, there are some FSM members who look like they are up for the challenge.. smile

My biggest problem when I see a new thread about a score that had an old one I already commented in, is that I'm so addled these days that I would probably say 'oh I hate this score, it's terrible' only to find that I was raving about it in the other one.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think that Thor really got your message, Edw. Seems like you are a bit fed up with people who immediately post, "Hey, this topic was posted a few years ago. Use the search engine."

And we do use the engine before we post a new topic, and the engine often does NOT find that previous topic so why jump on the new poster?

I think we should let people respond to the newest topic and maybe after some time let a poster know that in a "far away galaxy" decades ago, we talked about this composer or score or whatever and then post that URL for HISTORICAL perspectives. Am I close, Edw?

Thor never gets jokes, not even in a 'far away galaxy'.
I think he might actually be a computer programme.

I think you're correct joan and you are spot on! It seems to bother the men on the board more than the women. That is NOT a sexist comment, just an observation. Of course, there are fewer of us. Not sure why it gets their shorts in such a bunch. There might be a few more issues that are more important here. smile

I'm so addled these days. Kev, according to your British friends, you look like a young Paul Newman, so why would you be addled? wink

Thanks Edw.

I said a young Steven Gerrard, dunno where Paul Newman came into it...other than your fevered imagination.

Ah, I misunderstood.

Well, for me, it's all very easy. First of all, I'd like for all discussions on one topic to be in one thread, for easy reference and search. Second, I believe firmly in a discussion moving FORWARD rather than in circles; which you can only do after you've built on preceding arguments rather than repeating them. Third, after having been here for so long, I'm not interested in re-typing what I've said before; so it's much easier for me to refer to previous topics or posts I've made on the exact same topic.

But as I said, I'm starting to 'slip'. I don't care as much anymore, not even when zooba makes that inevitable second or third or fourth reiteration of the same topic. I might chime in once or twice, but others, like Bruce Marshall, are free to take over that particular reign, if they so wish.

Edw for one night only i agree with thor in that its good for same films /scores to be in one thread. It isnt imperative but its logical.

Try this edw...go google and searching filmscoremonthly/threads/film name ...(or whatever keyword youre looking for)....much better results.

Okay, TG, Gerrard really doesn't look like Paul Newman. Must be my "fevered imagination."

Is Nanette cute, Bill?

Howard, I don't know how you can even remember the titles of some of these ancient threads. Yep, we were young a long time ago. smile

Yes most revealing thread. Especially the fact that our Huey argued the opposite then!! Ha ha big grin

Joanie: "Oh i think some of those old threads are amazing, literate, and delightful to read. I don't want them to die"

Dana Wilcox "... As for me, I'm with Joan -- love to see the old ones resurrected so that the continuity of the discussion is preserved."
