I'm the kind of audience member who thinks that a simple act of redemption does NOT wipe the slate clean of misdeeds. For example, I still don't think Anakin is off the hook after he killed the Emperor. So many decades of manipulation, murder and genocide cannot be wiped away by tossing an old man off a catwalk.
In the case of Kylo Ren, he's had WAY TOO MANY opportunities to actually turn sides but instead chose not to. And every time he did, it almost immediately resulted in the deaths of more of the good guys. If our heroes are going to try and redeem him again, why can't they try and redeem everyone else? If Finn can turn good, why can't other Stormtroopers do the same?
