WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10

THE LION KING---trailer released for the remake movie.

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skUe9UqWJmA

GREASE---GREASE prequel titled SUMMER LOVING is underway to the 1978 movie musical which starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. The prequel was inspired by the GREASE song "Summer Nights" which tells about the summer fling between Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson when they first met. John August (CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY) is the writer.

HAWKEYE---Jeremy Renner will return as Hawkeye in an untitled Disney+/Marvel Studios miniseries. Future miniseries will include Falcon, Winter Soldier, Loki, Vision and Scarlet Witch.

STAR WARS: EPISODE IX---JJ Abrams talked about developing EPISODE IX following Rian Johnson's THE LAST JEDI, "I had some gut instincts about where the story would have gone. But without getting in the weeds on EPISODE VIII, that was a story that Rian wrote and was telling based on seven before we met. So he was taking the thing in another direction. So we also had to respond to EPISODE VIII. So our movie was not just following what we had started, it was following what we had started and then had been advanced by someone else."

MGM---the Russo Brothers will be "spiritual creative architects" for MGM remakes of THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR (starring Michael B. Jordan), THE PINK PANTHER, POLTERGEIST, THE SECRET OF NIMH and IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD.

DUNE---language builder David J. Peterson, who developed the Dothraki and Valryian languages on GAME OF THRONES, will develop languages for the Denis Villeneuve remake movie.

CINDERELLA---Sony Pictures live-action movie underway starring Camilia Cabello and based on an idea by James Corden.

THE SILENCING---Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Annabelle Wallis star in this movie about a hunter and female sheriff who track a killer who kidnapped the hunter's daughter years before.

FUTURE MAN---Hulu renewed the series for season 3 which will be the last season.

CASTLE ROCK---Paul Sparks (BOARDWALK EMPIRE, HOUSE OF CARDS) is replacing Garrett Hedlund in Season 2.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY---Season 9 will be titled AMERICAN HORROR STORY: 1984.

TRIVIA---contrary to popular belief, director John McTiernan did not use the same Teddy Bear in DIE HARD and THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER.

Bruce Willis with the Teddy Bear in DIE HARD.

Stanley the Teddy Bear next to Alec Baldwin in THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER.

A side-by-side comparison shows the Teddy Bears in the two movies are not the same.

"spiritual creative architects"

Is this going to be the new credit we see on half the trailers, like "from the mind of Zach Synder" or however that one went? Is it "from the mind of" or something even more poncy?

"From the spiritual creative architects of...Porky's 2", etc.

Wow, The Lion King looks fucking awful. Like, I mean, the animals don't move like living things and don't quite match the environment. Why would anyone want this uncanny valley stuff over an animated classic?

Ugh, definitely not looking forward to any of these. The synopsis I’ve seen regarding the new NIMH sounds dreadful and they’re certainly going to have a hard time topping the casting in the original Mad Mad World.

Because the Jungle Book was a huge hit. I agree with the uncanny valley problem, which they can't seem to overcome. My biggest issue is this looks like an exact frame by frame remake of the 2D version. Like, whats the point?

Why remake these films. Jesus! TTCA & Poltergeist already had lousy remakes. Pink Panther and IAMMMW are products of their times. You can't remake comedy classics. Remaking NIMH is the most ill-fated idea of them all.

The 1999 version of The Thomas Crown Affair is FAR better than the original.

Yep its official - Hollywood is so desperate its run totally dry of ideas beyond remaking hits.
They tried before with alan arkin (and Steve martin? And his illegitimate son Roberto Benigni  ) - Peter sellers was the reason the pink panther films worked and were funny.

Thats what hollywood doesnt get - to think of remaking them is to not "get" them.

I suspect Kathleen Kennedy decided to give the directors too much freedom to affect the story direction, rather than being a 'proper' producer and holding the reigns of a previously worked out plot direction.

Voice casting of The Lion King - main cast mostly black actors and white actor (Seth Rogen - although he is jewish) playing comic relief character.
Isn't that the highest level of positive discrimination?

Never saw the original but the 1999 version was lame. It was a period when Hollywood thought it was edgy to have hard hitting softcore sex scenes in their films. How many times was Rene Russo naked? (Not that I'm complaining)

Exactly. Peter Sellers owns the role. Anything else is a pale intimation.

It boggles my mind KK who worked under Lucas and took over the reigns when Lucas sold the company thought so little of the property. Not to sketch out a three picture arc if not fully write out a trilogy before production began on the sequels. Kennedy only seemed interested in doing one thing, using a hugely popular franchise to sell her personal agenda.

That's my only complaint about the current Star Wars trilogy, as I really enjoyed TLJ and thought the deconstruction of Luke and the subversion of fan expectations was fantastic: the utter lack of planning. This should have been mapped out from the start, not dependent on whatever the director/writers wanted to do.

I can't think of a bigger betrayal of a classic cinematic character beloved by untold millions.

It's a fantastic film, and the complete score needs a release ASAP
