www.quartetrecords.com IL SESSO DEL DIAVOLO Music by Stelvio Cipriani Limited Collector’s Edition of 300 units Quartet Records and Gruppo Sugar presents a complete score premiere of a fascinating psychedelic Stelvio Cipriani score. Oscar Brazzi's Il sesso del diavolo (aka Trittico) is a 1971 film, about disgraced surgeon Andrea questions his competency following a botched operation – his much younger wife Barbara and his medical assistant Sylvia tag along for a trip to Istanbul. When the sordid back story of their rented villa is revealed to them, our main characters get involved in weird hallucinations. The music composed and conducted by Stelvio Cipriani (Dedicato a una stella, Uccidere in Silenzio, Timanfaya) is built around a main theme fashioned after the classic psychedelic hit song, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly. This cornerstone of the 1960s reflects on the main characters' use of drugs in the plotline, but actually there's a lot more organ-based hallucinatory fun to be had. This is the premiere release of a previously unreleased score, mastered by Claudio Fuiano from the stereo master tapes vaulted in mint conditions at Gruppo Sugar. The 8-page liner notes by Gergely Hubai discuss the film, the composer and the score. 01. Il Sesso del Diavolo (Titoli) (3:01) 02. Il Sesso del Diavolo (seq.2) (2:36) 03. Written and directed by Sergio Pastore in 1969. Il diario proibito di Fanny is an anthology film starring Giovanna Lenzi as four different women, all named Fanny. The film touches upon all the hot-button issues of 1968: illegal immigrants from the Eastern bloc, the Prague Spring, the Italian star cult and even abortion. The score composed by Nora Orlandi (Il dolce corpo di Deborah, Lo strano vizio della Signora Wardh, Clint il solitario) follows the movie's main gimmick. Since all four characters are played by the same actress, Orlandi uses only a handful of motives and dresses them up in different disguises ranging from the fun fair ("Luna Park") to a casual dance number ("Fox Trot") and even a waltz performed by the composer herself ("Valzerino con voce"). Beautifully orchestrated and conducted by Robby Poitevin, this score only had a single release. Our CD presents the entire score for the first time, mastered by Claudio Fuiano from the stereo master tapes vaulted in mint conditions at Gruppo Sugar. The 8-page liner notes by Gergely Hubai discuss the film, the composer and the score. 01. Il Diario Proibito di Fanny (Titoli) (2:02) 02. Il Diario Proibito di Fanny (Luna Park) (1:35) 03. Smith Performed by The Rage Within Limited Collector’s Edition of 300 units Quartet Records and Cinevox presents a complete score premiere of a forgotten Italian masterpiece of psychedelia! Based on a novel by Alberto Moravia, Delitto al circolo del tennis, directed by Franco Rosetti in 1969, with cinematography by Vittorio Storaro, centers around four individuals: college professor Riccardo Dossi (Chris Avram), his lover Benedetta (Anna Gaël), his daughter Lilla (Angela McDonald) and student Sandro (Roberto Bisacco). The four of them will end up in a plot centered around sex, drugs, betrayal and even a murder gone wrong. The fascinating score was composed by Phil Chilton and Peter L. Smith, and is performed by the band The Rage Within (named after the movie's English title). The film itself was shaped in a way to facilitate a contemporary pop score. Rosetti’s narrative is deliberately light on dialogue which allowed for psychedelic montages and songs to comment on the action. Think of it as Zabriskie Point, but without the star power of Pink Floyd. There has been an LP of the score with 14 tracks released by Cinevox in 1969 -one of the top rare and expensive Italian albums in the secondary market these days- but for this edition, we have included the original LP montage and also the unreleased complete score, all mastered by Claudio Fuiano from the original session tapes vaulted at Cinevox. Ikeda’s vigorous artistic activity even included screenplay writing and film directing. With this movie, Masuo Ikeda has undoubtedly left his mark on the ’70s Italian skin cinema. The awesome, full melodic score composed, orchestrated and conducted by Ennio Morricone was released in a Japanese LP (Columbia Records LX-7062) soon after the film came out in 1979. The album contained a selection of 11 tracks, and quickly became one of the most sought after items among collectors. The only CD reissue (SLCS-7119) of the score was produced in Japan in the label SLC in 1992. Apart from the original album content the CD also featured a cover version song of the main theme, arranged by Walter Rizzati and performed by Ruggero Gatti. The SLC CD was sold out very quickly and has been out of print for several years by now. Due to its extreme rarity and great artistic value, a new reissue of this score has been highly demanded by collectors. We were fortunate to locate the complete master tapes session and offer a complete version of this masterpiece of Morricone, that we released in a limited edition CD in 2010, although it was quickly sold out. This encore -and very limited- reissue that celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film includes the same expanded program, that has been just slightly remastered due to its crisp and beautiful sound. Supervised by Claudio Fuiano, restored and mastered by Dániel Winkler, who also provides liner notes included in a 12-page full color booklet. 01. Dedicato al Mare Egeo (2:32) 02. Un Grido (2:53) 03. Ordered Cipriani and Morricone immediately from QUARTET. Good for you that you did: Morricone's Dedicato al Mare Egeo is already gone! http://www.quartetrecords.com/cd-catalogue/dedicato-al-mare-egeo.html Sold out in about only 1 week. Well, it was only 300 copies. In fact a week seems like a long time to sell 300 copies of a popular Morricone. I guess that's just because it's been out before. But anyway, congratulations to Quartet. I love you guys and Dedicato has been a practically non-stop spin in this house. It's a good job it's not vinyl otherwise it'd be worn out by now! Cheers
