The reboots of X-FILES and STAR TREK qualify as disasters. In a just world these horrid attempts at rebooting classic shows would doom them to tv purgatory. . Reportedly, XF is dead and buried but the corpse of ST has been reanimated for the umpteenth time.
On the other hand. ... Amazon has redeemed themselves by producing two outstanding series. MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE has three successful seasons. PHILIP K. DICK'S ELECTRIC DREAMS had a satisfying first season. Hopefully s.2 is coming...You have to subscribe to see these but its worth it ( you also get to see the terrific MRS MAISEL!)
STAR TREK: DISCOVERY is the best STAR TREK thing I've ever seen (unlike 99% of FSM, I usually don't care about STAR TREK in any shape or form; maybe that's why I liked it so much -- it's "differentness", like STARGATE: UNIVERSE). And I thought the latest season of X-FILES was much better than the one before it, not counting the silly goofball episodes.
MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE is OK, but a big sluggish to get through. PHILIP K. DICK had a few decent episodes, but mostly came off as second-rate BLACK MIRROR.
But there have been plenty of other great shows this year, most of which I've seen, mentioned and listed in the 'paranormal/sci fi TV' thread of mine. It's just very rare that you and I like the same things.
There's no vision for Star Trek. It lacks quality characters, scripts or story. It's a combination of old and new, a reboot of a reboot set in darker times with CGI over kill and fast cutting shots that lacks any sense of drama or inventiveness.

The first two Bad Robot Star Trek movies were pretty successful with audiences and Star Trek Beyond is actually one of the best Trek movies to come out in recent years. So, no.
Discovery is "okay." It's just not Star Trek to me. Toooo negative.
The X-Files wasn't a reboot, it was just a continuation, seasons 10 and 11 or something. That series stopped being good after Fight the Future.
I'd comment if I had enough exposure to any of these. They all look dreadful to me, and I just don't have the motivation to seek them out. Sadly, I really haven't been in touch with the scifi genre for at least a decade now. Is this just what happens when one gets older, or have tastes changed so drastically, or has the industry taken that much of a dive? Probably all of the above.
I *have* watched most of the Disney Star Wars films and the first two Bad Robot Treks, also the first season of High Castle and Westworld. Intriguing concepts, but they don't hold my interest. I find myself gravitating to the "disposable" nature of 60s scifi and enjoying it much more.
