The last update from MV on the won't happen/still trying/isn't possible tug-of-war on "Ghostbusters" was somewhere from the first half of last year:
"On going lol"
Previously it had been they tried and tried and tried but had no luck.
I don't think I've seen an update on the score to the sequel in some time now.

Nah, this has been going on for years now. This new film was only just announced last year. It might be the reason now.

My dream is a Ghostbusters soundtrack that acknowledges the song-score duality and would include:
1.) The film mixes of the Alessi Brothers’ “Savin’ the Day” song that has the added melody line and clean endings. These were especially done for the film.
2.) The long version of “Cleanin’ Up the Town” with the instrumental section tracked into the film.
3.) The film version of the refrigerator sequence, even if this was created after Bernstein completed his main scoring duties.
4.) The long version of “Magic” with the instrumental section heard in the montage sequence in the film. An edit including the Bernstein synth overlays might also be interesting to have.
5.) A recreation of the “End Credits” with the songs and score edited together. As odd as it appears on paper, it works OK musically, I think—although perhaps living with it for 35 years blinds me to the flaws. But it needs to be done in stereo rather than the “mono with ambience” way the songs were dubbed into the film.
6.) A reworking of the score elements with a different approach to the sonics.
But given licensing from multiple entities, perhaps the above is not feasible. Who knows.

The Alessi Brothers released a CD a few years ago with every mix they did of the song.

I'd also like to add both source cues (the hotel and the restaurant) which were in full in the bootlegs. Each only used partially in the film. Like a poster above me, I don't care if these were done by somebody else.
This is one of the few rare films I wouldn't mind if a CD of the songs was released along with the score. Off the top of my head, I think I can only say that about two or three films.

The way I see it, it can only fuel the hype! If someone knows the answer, please explain.
To use that hype for the new movie. If they license it a year or two before the new project comes out, any excitement/profit generated will be diluted over time.

GHOSTBUSTERS 3---sources claim the new sequel's lead characters will be two teenage boys and two teenage girls and the plot involves a, “family who moves back home to a small town…[and] learn[s] more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself.”
If even half of this is true, the Jason doesn't get it. And apparently never got it.

If even half of this is true, the Jason doesn't get it. And apparently never got it.

But re-thinking the trailer, what did we see? A barn out in a field. Maybe this is the small town.
And this family just happens to be related to one of the original leads, who long ago parked the Echo1 in the barn for storage.
So the trailer has to mean something; it wasn't a barn for no reason. Having said that, obviously this rumor could just be a well-crafted lie.
