It may have better without julie andrews! And a more believable love interest for omar.
But it does have really long sequences of barry's theme as the tension builds.

I disagree - I enjoy the film very much and have watched it several times: cinema (admittedly I don't recall the auditorium being packed smile but it was an afternoon showing), TV and on DVD. I upgraded to the Network Blu-Ray nearly 4 years ago mainly for the John Barry isolated score - this remains one of my top wish-list score releases.

The film's story-line is old-fashioned but for me is fine; the actors are as good as/better than they need to be (I have no problem with either lead and the supporting cast are enjoyable to watch); the cinematography is excellent (location filming is superb!); and the music ... is, of course, note perfect - I couldn't wish for more ... other than a legitimate full score release! smile

I've just started to re-read the novel ...

... as I bought and read it shortly after seeing the film upon its general UK release I reckon that must be 43-44 years ago. I wonder if I'll remember much ...
