And in the last couple of weeks, some more not on the original list of 27 have closed or are closing:

Solihull Mell Square (failure to agree rent with landlords)
Belfast Donegall Arcade (failure to agree rent with landlords Sports Direct, will close April 28th - may reopen elsewhere)
York (closes April 28th)
Portsmouth Gunwharf Quays (failure to agree rent with landlords, closes March 31st)

I was in Belfast yesterday, and was a bit surprised to see the "Closing down - everything must go" signs outside HMV. I was also surprised to go in and see absolutely no evidence of a sale and everything at it's normal price! Bit of false advertising there I thought!

Talk of maybe moving elsewhere, but the staff weren't hopeful and apparently redundancy packages are being negotiated. Typical Mike Ashley, eh?

I find it strange that a few more stores are all announcing closure due to failure to agree rent wth the landlords... at the same time?!

It's a shock that the Oxford Street store closed. I suppose the real estate there is too valuable to support a money losing concern. It's the end of an era.

Of course, I fondly remember the massive store at 150 Oxford Street. It was a must-go destination every time I visited London. I could spend hours in the classical basement area that was "insulated" from the din of the rest of the store. One time I bought a big stack of CDs and, when the total price came up on the cash register, the cashier asked "Don't you think you're being a bit self indulgent?" Fun times.

...That sounds familiar to me!

Further to the above, Thomas will no doubt be pleased to learn this store has been saved!

And HMV's Westfield in Shepherd's Bush has reopened today.

Yes good news. I called in yesterday but forgot to ask about it. I did notice their "sale" posters had been taken down. Their vinyl is still horribly overpriced.

Great news about the Fopp store. By a country mile the best thing about Manchester.
