Universal Music produced two editions of this 10-track 2000 compilation--the one for general release, and another, with different artwork under the title "Wrap It Up Holiday Music," for sale at The Sports Authority, a chain of sporting goods stores that went out of business in 2016. A portion of the sales proceeds of the latter was donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
This 1996 Sony compilation CD was first released on LP in 1981. Dipping deep into Columbia's back catalog, the 10-track release includes selections from The Brothers Four, Anita Bryant, and Anthony Newley.
CBS Special Products first released this 15-track compilation in 1988. Sometime after 1991, when the label's name had changed to Sony Music Special Products, it was again released in conjunction with the Excelsior label, which at that time was associated with the Sam Goody record store chain. Among the less frequently heard Columbia artists on this disc are Mahalia Jackson and French pianist Richard Clayderman (born Philippe Pagès).
This 10-track compilation was licensed to KRB Music from some outfit called "TMC." While I'm familiar with Jeannie C. Riley and Donna Fargo, I have never heard of the other artists on the album: Eddie Raven, Joe Stampley, Skeeter Davis, and Jack Greene.
This two-CD set was the first Christmas compilation issued by Time-Life Records on the then-new medium, way back in 1987. They licensed dozens of classic tracks for the set, which remains their best Christmas recording to date. It was re-issued in 2002.
I have this set along with another Time-Life with a similar cover. Wonderful selections on both.
Although Vic Damone got his first recording contract in 1947, it wasn't until 1981 that he recorded his one and only Christmas album, "Christmas With Vic Damone," for the budget Holiday label. This is the CD re-issue of that LP, put out by KRB Music in 1999.
"Home for Christmas" was the 30th solo studio album released by Dolly Parton, on September 11, 1990, by Columbia Records. Parton promoted the album's release with a television special titled "Dolly Parton: Christmas at Home," which aired December 21, 1990, on ABC. The special featured footage of Parton in the studio recording the album, visiting and singing with her family at the Tennessee Mountain Home where she grew up, as well as performances filmed at a church and various other locations in the Smoky Mountains
The album was certified Gold by the RIAA on December 27, 1994. This is the 2001 re-issue of the CD.
This 2001 compilation from Definitive Records combines selected tracks from Frankie Avalon's 1962 Chancellor Records "Christmas Album," from Johnny Tillotson's 1966 MGM album "The Christmas Touch," and from Bobby Helms' 1970 Certron Records album "Jingle Bell Rock."
The kicker is that this CD has a version of "Jingle Bell Rock" that I've never heard before. This is not the very familiar 1957 single, and is a more easy country version of the tune than Helm's much later "Special Nashville Edition." I presume it's the one on the 1970 LP, since Certron was primarily a country music label. Helms recorded seven versions of the song during his lifetime.
Mick Dalla-Vee is a Canadian singer, songwriter, producer, engineer, and multi-instrumentalist. The "Whistler" in "A Whistler Christmas" is not a person, but the town of Whistler, British Columbia, where Dalla-Vee has spent much of his adult life. This self-produced album is from 1994.
Recorded in 2000, Andre Previn said, "Brass ensemble playing cannot possibly be any more virtuosic or musical..." I've been to Heinz Hall, home of the Pittsburgh Symphony, a number of times during the Christmas season and have seen that mammoth tree in the lobby, as pictured on the CD cover.
This compilation of classical Christmas music features tracks from orchestras not usually heard, including the Rochester Philharmonic, Houston Symphony, and Florida Symphonic Pops. This is the fourth in a 15-volume series that the Coca-Cola Company released in 1999.
