Been chugging through this with intent for the first time properly. The first two seasons were mostly poor picks up in the third. It's at it's worst when it tries action scenes and relies on the holodeck or when Wesley has the answer and no one listens to him. It's failure to develop secondary characters is also disappointing. And there acres of technobabble that takes up valuable storytelling time. Oh the non-speaking crewmen extras always seem to have a dead-eyed quality in àny situation that's pretty bad.
It picks up in season 3 a lot more. Patrick Stewart earns his crust every episode. He seems very angry in every episode early in but it was pleasing to see Wesley Crusher told to sod off so much.
The guest stars are interesting. Saul Rubinek is fantastic to watch in his episode. THe zctress who plays a crewman and also Worf's missus is also always welcome to see.
There's the villain and his wife from Columbo episode The Bye Bye Sky High IQ Murder.
Then they have a decent episode called Data's Day which also has Alan Scarfe and amazing redhead Cameron in it who were both in the episode Columbo Cries Wolf.
It's watchable and entertaining enough, a bit too much reliant in them solving everything very quickly and there's too much time travel and psychic entities.

I didn't see it either, but just to make sure I'm thinking of the same show.... was there a main character (alien) in it with a forehead like a Mars Bar?
That made me laugh. Yes, he's called Worf. I think it's the sound he makes when he throws up.

I'm on season 4 now and it's pretty watchable. The music has been decent throughout the series too. Never realised it got so "big" sounding in places.
They get the odd guest star like Jean Simmons or David Ogden Stiers that can really, really act and are given proper techno-babble-free dialogue that peps the entire thing up a bit.
There's still the problematic "action" scenes. A phaser battle has all the excitement of a dad pointing the telly-clicker at the telly to change channel.
I do enjoy the stunt-doubles used for the most minor stunts that look nothing like who they're supposed to be. Harkened back to TOS.

Wait until they get to the Cybermen!
I mean, The Borg.
I got past the first time they met them. They're a bit useless. I mean, they let you walk around them as long as you're basically not stabbing them or something.
I used to love the Cybermen when i was a kid watching the Sylvester McCoy Dr Who. The Dr Who where he fights a giant Bertie Bassett made out of liquorice allsorts is still the high watermark of TV sci-fi. and for some reason i remember Delta and the Bannermen where aliens invade a Welsh holiday camp.

Didn't Picard/Patrick Stewart adopt the Equaliser/Edward Woodward school of acting, wherein SHOUTING VERY LOUDLY, IN A STERN, HEAD-MASTERLY ENGLISH MANNER made the baddies (aliens) desist in what they were doing?
He does come across as very short-tempered, especially in the first 2 seasons.

Some of the clothing is (unintentionally?) bizarre. His space-sleeping-kimono being one bit.
