Too true. I wonder if Janeaway Mrs Columbo'd in her episodes at all.

The last episode i'll be watching for a few months was Will Riker meeting another Will Riker. Happily, they didn't just bump him off either, but transferred him away at the end. They really didn't do much with the premise so i'm hoping he comes back later.

I actually enjoyed the ending part of season 6 and the start of season 7.

Then it hit a bumpy, uneven patch of episodes. A couple of awful episodes, including Dr Crusher and an ancient Scottish ghost who's apparently sexed up every woman in her family tree. But i think they've mostly been watchable. Not as many guest stars, if i recall correctly; a young Kirsten Dunst and a couple of others i can't recall.

There was a decent one, that was well directed by Gates McFadden where everyone was "de-evolving" into spiders, lizards and other creatures that had some decent effects and actually was pretty creepy. It also had Barclay in it, which was a bonus.

There was an episode about a group of officers going for promotions that i liked. I'd have preferred it if they were characters that had been threaded through the series, i think only one was semi-regular (the Japanese medic who should have been in more episodes) and one had been in a single episode before (a really cute blond alien lass who should have been in more episodes), but i thought it was very effective.

There's been some really good music in the last few seasons, too.

(I also went back and rewatched The Orville, which somebody recommended doing, and actually really enjoy it a lot more now viewing it as a Star Trek fan series, as opposed to watching it as a comedy, which, sadly, it really fails at, in part due it's reliance on thinking saying "dick" a lot is comedy.)

So far season two of Orville has dropped the "comedy" aspect of the series. Yes, there's some goofy comedy here and there but for the most part it's presenting itself as a drama series with quirky characters.

I think the Orville would work better that way, Solium. I'd be interested in getting through season one then onto the rest.

I long for a Trek series that deals with civilians of the Federation, especially a group who wants to explore the stars beyond Starfleet doctrine.

  • THe zctress who plays a crewman and also Worf's missus is also always welcome to see.

Suzie Plakson is the Mark Lenard of TNG.

Seems like they're relegating comic relief duty to the navigator character.

I finished watching TNG. The last couple of episodes were pretty decent and it ended the series on a satisfying note. It was a surprise to see Ro Laren run off and join a different group of people and for Wesley Crusher to become a universal traveller type chap. No Whoopi Goldberg, which wasn't much of a miss and no O'Brien and his wife which I missed a bit. They had finally properly introduced the Asian nurse as a secondary character, and then she was pregnant, but as you never really met her too much or knew her other half it didn't really matter that much. That actress did well working with nothing.

One of the best episodes in the last series was following a group of characters we'd never really met before going for promotions. I'd like to see seen more of that.

I do wish they had developed the relationships between the characters a bit more. They were only really briefly touched upon, so when they popped up in the plot mechanics on several occasions it felt like it was addressing things i had no reference to.

They also had some interesting secondary characters that never really got the development they deserved that could have worked well in the series.

I'd say there were more decent episodes than duffers and it was enjoyable in the long run with quite a few solid episodes and not really too many stinkers considering the number of episodes.
