I'm not too familiar with this composer and would really appreciate a few recommendations of scores to introduce me to his work. Thanks

Hi Peter, I have a huge admiration and respect for Roque, not only because I like his music a lot, but because I have had the honor to work with him on several occasions. So I might be somehow biased, but here are some recommendations. From his Spanish period be sure to listen to: El Corazon del Guerrero Segunda Piel No Somos Nadie La Caja Kovak Alatriste Zona Hostil Los Ultimos de Filipinas 800 Balas From his American period I find most impressive: Evil Dead The Machinist Risen The Man Who Killed Don Quixote In the Heart of the Sea Intruders Of course there are many more, he has a vast compositional output, and it might be a matter of taste as well.

Also: FRAGILES Powerful, melodic, haunting.

The Machinist is excellent and very Bernard Herrmann. In the Heart of the Sea is completely different and less memorable, more generic.

I didn't know there was such a film out. I'll have to have a look. Oh, Evil Dead was a good score, worked well in the film but wasn't my cup of tea to listen to away from it. Too scary.

I should probably relisten to it. It's my favourite book and I was so disappointed with the film it might have coloured my judgement.
