A great romantic gem of a score from Victor Young:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIQIp0LEXHA

A gorgeous love theme (look at 0:00, and 29:52, for example), and some marvelous themes for fairly short sequences (such as the ocean music at 32:41 and 41:47).

I have always thought that Young delivered some of the most powerful Hollywood end titles (listen to SAMSON AND DELILAH, RUN OF THE ARROW, THE BRAVE ONE, or the Decca re-recording of GOLDEN EARRINGS as just a few examples). ABOUT MRS. LESLIE ranks right up there with these other greats.

Other than a very faithful recording of the love theme conducted by Walter Scharf on a Mercury 10" LP called "Listening Time" (MG 25192), and a recording by Harry Sukman on the LP "FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS: A TRIBUTE TO VICTOR YOUNG" (Jubilee JLP 1034), nothing else has ever surfaced from this film on LP or CD. That's a pity.

I was always surprised that Young did not record any music from this score on any of his own many Decca LPs of film themes.

I emailed Bruce Kimmel when he was doing his Victor Young at Paramount CDs, and he said that he found no trace of the original tracks at Paramount.

Anyway, at least Victor Young fans can watch this film on YouTube and enjoy the score there.

Big fan of this movie and Young's score. Certainly Shirley Booth's most unusual role (love the nightclub singing!).

There quite a few scores of Victor Young in the Paramount vault that could be put onto a CD if only the labels would show interest. What a pity ! The market is now dominated by the horror film, comic book heroes, and TV show " JUNKies".

I agree Cody. Let's hope Kritzerland, LLL, Intrada, Music Box, Quartet etc. will give us VICTOR YOUNG VOL. 3!
