The score was ok, like Homecoming, is prove Giacchino excels working with good directors (even if the movie is terrible, like FK), but when works with people like Watts or Trevorrow, things are pretty automatic and simple. Nothing terrible, nothing truly good, simple ok.
Also, Giacchino's Avengers-theme references are now getting subtle enough to fool Alan Silvestri's agent. It definitely shows up near the end of "Who's Behind Those Foster Grants," but Silvestri wasn't listed in the song credits at the end.

And Silvestri probably doesn’t own the rights to the theme. Sony might not even be obliged to list him in the movies credits.
Absolutely loving this score and CD. I loved it in the - hugely enjoyable - film and it's stacks of fun on its own. The main theme is one of the catchiest and most memorable character themes I've heard in many, many years. And it's perfect for the Spiderman/Peter Parker characters too. If he writes something half as good for the new Batman, it will still be miles above what we've had served up recently.
Yeah, I enjoyed this score too. His Mysterio theme(s) is a lot of fun and steals the score, imo. Even though he's been hired to score The Batman he hasn't been confirmed for the third MCU Spider-Man installment, or Dr Strange 2, or Jurassic World 3, which all have release dates for the summer of 2021. I wonder how he'll be able to squeeze any of those in his schedule if at all. Regardless I hope Giacchino returns for the third adventure because Elfman never got to complete his Spider-Man trilogy due to his falling out with Sam Raimi. Horner didn't return for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Not to mention The Amazing Spider-Man franchise only lasted for two movies anyway. So it would be nice change of pace for a composer in this franchise to score the entire trilogy for once.
Indeed Yavar. I forgot about Dr Strange. I love the prog rock meets baroque style and sound and it's yet another evocative and memorable main theme that perfectly describes the title character.
I thought it was an above average score from Giacchino, quite enjoying in fact. The suite is really on heavy rotation for me, it's so much better that the suite from "Homecoming" (The Vulture stuff was more than heavy-handed).
All the new themes are pretty good (and I have a love/hate relationship with Giacchino on themes, as I for one didn't care about "Doctor Stange" which I found too simplistic), some independant cues are even catchy (like "Brad to the Drone"), and there is a great variety in the album.
It might not bring new fans to the composer, particularly in the action writing ("Doom and Gloom" is more tiring than exciting), but this one was a keeper for me.
Playing this again today and some of the fight/baddie moments reminded me of the Nuclear Man sequences from Superman 4 Quest For Peace and at other times parts sounded like some scores by John Ottman (shut up Shaun).
Don't worry. I've never said that Brian is the greatest of them all. BUT he's one of my Top 5, with Giacchino too, obviously. And he's most underrated of all these 5 guys.
