From the "about" section on the website:

"The world premiere release of the soundtrack from the 1977 beloved Jim Henson produced TV special, Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas. The show first aired December 17,1977 on HBO and features songs written by Paul Williams. The music is classic Paul Williams and Jim Henson magic. Fans have been asking for a release of the soundtrack for many years."

It, like the Charlie Brown release, does not mention the source of the release. I'm assuming the audio was taken from a yard sale VHS.

I've never seen the special or heard any of the songs, so I'll have to check it out later.

I hope along with these kinds of releases lately, I can get my little grail, too: "Garfield in Disguise" ( AKA: what should have been called the Garfield Halloween Special).

Catchy memorable songs and a score that's stuck in my head.

I ripped all of the songs from the Garfield holiday specials (Halloween, Xmas, and Thanksgiving) right around that same time. In fact, the run of Garfield specials, as well as Garfield and Friends, was full of great songs.

I never really got into the Christmas and Thanksgiving ones, though the Hawaii vacation one was fun and had a catchy song or two in it.

Look on the bright side - maybe they used a Betamax tape.

Emmet Otter's Ukelele Luau?

Jugband Xmas has been a holiday fave of mine since childhood, and we still watch it every year to this day. River Bottom Nightmare Baaaaaaand! I'm ecstatic that this is coming on CD. Thanks, Varese.

Well, I watched most of the special. I didn't care for the songs or score.

My copy just arrived, and it's terrific! Beautiful sound quality, attractive packaging and liner notes by Tim Grieving and Paul Williams. NOT a film or stems rip, there are some elements here that weren't present in the special itself, such as the organ that was briefly dialed out at the beginning of "Our World/Brothers." If I have one small quibble, it's that I would have appreciated the inclusion of the short main title, which is a nice instrumental of "Our World/Brothers." But this at least can be ripped from the DVD with minimal FX. Regardless, this is a VERY highly recommended purchase!

That's great news! I got mine in the mail, but hadn't gotten a chance to listen yet. Bummer about the opening titles, but that's a small complaint for me as long as the other stuff is crisp and clean.

Here's something from out of left field -- a remake coming:
