Maybe it works in the mix — I don't know, never saw the film — but it's one of those scores only a mother could love.

I´m not a mother, so...

And the film is magnificent, too. You're missing out.

You know… in a Mom treats you to McDonald's for getting a bronze star for effort on your class assignment sorta way?

****

Of course, Dad thinks Mom is just spoiling the kid, which will only lead to unrealistic expectations of reward for even the most trivial of accomplishments.

Like when the Special Ed. teacher told them last term that their son was being held back a year he remarked "the kid ain't never gonna be an Einstein, Helen", to which she heatedly replied "our son isn't dumb, George. How could you think that? He's got a talent. He just needs time to find out what it is". After which, he recalls, Helen drove George Jr. to the Chuck E Cheese in Torrance 90 mins. away.

But having been married for so many years, George knew when to relent. And so he grabbed a beer from the fridge and exited the kitchen, this time lobbing "but at the rate you're rewarding him, Helen, you're just gonna make him fat".

Helen smolders, asking herself (for the hundredth time) why she ever married that horrible man.

Well, the main thing of attempting to be a comedian is to actually try to be funny.

She then puts on Justin Hurwitz's score from FIRST MAN to calm herself down.

Ah! i get it now!

Plus Chardonnay in a Box goes down with anything. Just ask George.
