As has been rumored for months, the actor has officially signed on to star in a new Star Trek series for CBS All Access in which he will reprise his role as Jean-Luc Picard. The new series will not be a reboot of The Next Generation but instead is being described as an exploration of the next chapter of Picard's life.
After the last two crappy "Next Gen" movies, I'd rather not see anyone from that generation again.

only the movies?!
If you didnt even like the TVseries, why bother to post here? It's fan news, and you therefore have no vested interest, and most likely not one commemorative plate. Mista Marshall has no honor.

Just watched the new Picard trailer unveiled at Comic Con. Wowsers. I did NOT see that coming...
My gawd he looks old and washed up. And another female protagonist. I see a bait and switch. They're really hitting the nostalgia hard with this one. The settings in the preview looked like modern day Earth instead of the 24th century. Also don’t like any of the new characters, they look like cosplay. I’ll give them credit for trying to give Star Trek fans some “Star Trek” love here but not the least bit optimistic since JJ rebooted this franchise.
You know what? I'm excited about it. Why? Because it's a SEQUEL for a damned change instead of another prequel. That means potentially no continuity violations or advanced tech or shitty looking Klingons to bitch about. And they are apparently embracing Nemesis, which is always nice.
Going boldly backwards where everyone's been before, cuz it seems a lot of folks simply don't want to leave all good things from the past well enough alone.
They won't, there's still the copyright issues between Paramount and CBS. Plus this is still a Bad Robot production. The esthetics and characters have to be 25% different. Bad Robot also directly profits from these non-canon series.
