Jesus... I did not expect this kind of a score... It's a cross between his early score "Hammer of the Gods" and 2016 Doom game (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm932Sqwf5E).

I saw some TV adverts for this and it looked truly awful.
Like a really bad, cheap video game. The FX looked terrible.
Sounds like he gave it the music it deserves!!

Listen to the complete "Big Red" track, the very first track of the CD at:
https://nerdist.com/article/hellboy-soundtrack-exclusive-benjamin-wallfisch/

"The score is a kind of collision of contemporary EDM, punk rock and orchestral. We were trying to find a sound that conveys the irreverence and physical presence of Hellboy, and also explore the extremes of sonic darkness for his alter-ego, Anung Un Rama."
Benjamin Wallfisch

Track-list with time (from https://www.musicbox-records.com/en/cd-soundtracks/7023-hellboy-2019.html):
1. Big Red 5:29
2. Psychic Migraine 3:58
3. Gruagach 1:52
4. You Call Us Monsters 3:26
5. Baba Yaga 3:29
6. A New Eden 5:48
7. Destroyer of All Things 4:33
8. Cathedral Fight 7:32
9. Anung Un Rama 2:16
10. This Isn’t You 4:34
11. Hellboy 1:27
12. Rock Me Like a Hurricane (Spanish Version) 4:14

Yeesh, that sample track was a painful listen. The movie as a whole doesn't look promising either...

Only heard the first track so far and WTF....

Wallfisch really sank to Junkie/Balfe level here...

-----------------

OK.. gained a bit more courage to continue and later on there are some nice orchestral only moments, which aren't really that bad... eg New Eden, Baba Yaga,...

Come on, don't blame Wallfisch for channeling EDM if that's what the director/producers wanted. And last I checked, Balfe isn't known for EDM... Remember The Scorpion King's first track? It's almost entirely rock, but the rest of the score is much more in-line with Debney's orchestral scores.

It's going to be divised this one.

Hard score, a lot of electronic stuff, but with this hard-core heavy metal and agressive orchestral parts and etheral chorals. Very interesting score, indeed.

I'm of that few people who liked Hammer of the Gods.

Yeah, there are parts of HAMMER OF THE GODS that undeniably get the blood racing.
CONQUEST 1453 has some similar moments too, though not as extreme.
So it's not like he hasn't dabbled in this form before.
The film still looks awful though.

Went to see this film tonight and found a new appreciation for the score.
Yes, the film is a mess with it going all over the place, featuring some truly awful performances and having too many pointless songs blaring out BUT there are some good points ( main guy is great), some really good wee individual sequences ( the Baba Yaga!), and a lot of good score moments away from the blaring electronic rubbish. I don’t think the cd quite gives the full picture.

The movie has certainly a bit more to offer than the short album for some unexplicable reason avoiding the BEST part of the entire score...
