I hate speaker wire. The ends are full of strands and messy. And if they get in your receiver they can ruin it. I much prefer optical cables with soundbars, it's a nice clean connection.
Many hi-fi amps require proper speaker plugs rather than bare wires ... and all speakers I’ve owned these last 15 years, maybe more, likewise. My Pioneer AV amp takes bare wires and, I agree, this is a pain. I much prefer my hi-fi amp which requires speaker plugs. Mitch
I don't understand all the consternation concerning - of all things! - SPEAKER WIRE! I just twist them until they're nice and tight, then stick them into the connection! No problem!

My setup is fully running on speaker wire. The trick is to cut the cables longer than you need so that when the connection gets worn out you can cut it off and strip a new tip to insert. Never had an issue as long as you twist them tight before using.
