In 2015 Poland established the Wojciech Kilar Prize (with winners Elliot Goldenthal (2015), Alexandre Desplat (2016), Howard Shore (2017), and Michael Nyman (2018).
Now the City of Katowice, where Kilar lived for 65 years (of 81), has purchased his home from his heirs and is creating a museum.

For the house where Wojciech Kilar lived, and a plot of 1.2 thousand square meters sq m, the city will pay 790 thousand zl. The transaction is expected to take effect in March. The property now belongs to the composer's heirs.
- Although Wojciech Kilar was not born in Katowice, he lived and worked here for 65 years. Katowice has become his home of choice and we are very proud of it. We want to commemorate his character in the city space - says president Krupa.
The city is considering the creation of a museum dedicated to the memory of the composer or music education center in Kilar's house. The composer's family also expressed such willingness, after his death, he handed the memorabilia of it to the deposit of the Museum of History of Katowice. - The composer's relatives declared that if the city wants to take over the house and allocate it to the activities commemorating Wojciech Kilar, the souvenirs will be handed over to Katowice so that they can be displayed at the new facility - informs Maciej Stachura, head of the Department of Social Communication of the Katowice City Hall.
