Thanks! There wasn't another composer hired, at least not to my knowledge. She just meant that she assumed someone other than her had been hired.

This could get re-purposed for figure skating. If film scores can be licensed to get used for skaters, so could this is CBS was so inclined to play ball.

Thank you, Jason, so much for your diligence in researching this topic, a particular favorite of mine. I very much enjoyed your article and did learn some useful things.
Like the others who have posted before me, I was enthralled with and haunted by Tamara Kline's grand, noble, and uplifting Olympic Music for CBS. In the years after CBS lost their Olympic contract, I was very interested in the fate of her music. I had searched the Internet and had assembled a file of her contact information, hoping to appeal to her, so the music could be released. But I was too bashful to ever contact her, and I never did. I read a few posts by others who actually had tried to contact her about the music, and they reported not receiving a reply. So I was disheartened about me (a nobody here in New Jersey) approaching her (a big shot in Los Angeles). I even wanted to help finance the release of the music. I still do. If it could happen, I'd be there.
About 10 years ago, I decided to go to someone closer to my neck of the woods, to investigate what was what was what with her music. I e-mailed our own Ray Faiola, who I knew worked right there in the heart of the beast at CBS in New York as Director of Audience Services. I asked Ray to check out what Tamara Kline Olympic Music the CBS Music Library had in their archives. Ray was kind enough to take on the task and did research it. When he got back to me, he could only report that CBS said they did not have the Tamara Kline music in their archives. (???) The Music Library did tell him that she did retain ownership of the music. The exact legalities of who controls what, who had physical ownership of the actual sheet music and orchestral parts (in case a re-recording becomes possible), who has the original music masters, and where the actual music masters did reside could not be determined. It was my impression/conclusion over a decade ago that it was the CBS Music Library's position that Tamara Kline's CBS contract gave her total control of her Olympic Music and, for whatever combination of personal-legal-financial reasons, that music just could not be released. With that "inside information" right from the CBS Music Library, I let it go at that. I always had this idle mental fantasy of walking right into the CBS Music Library, plunking down $5,000-$10,000 in cash, and walking out with a nice complete CDR copy of the music.
After reading your article, Jason, perhaps the CBS Music Library gave Ray Faiola incomplete, misleading, or downright mistaken information. If they DO have the music, then there can be a starting point for someone with persistence. And cash.

Tamara, if you have a chance to read this, THANK YOU for your wonderful music for the Olympics. It has enriched our musical life. Whenever there are Winter Olympics, I think of your thrilling, uplifting music and smile a secret smile to myself.  And I'm glad you found fulfillment in a second career in the medical field, which is where I am (I'm an OB/GYN). I'm ready to help you if there is ever a chance your music can see the light of day.
I'm willing to pick up the gauntlet and charge the windmill again. Are there any Sancho Panzas out there who want to help? Or should I "pay them a visit" at CBS with a few Soprano-types with baseball bats? (Just kidding, you serious types. No violence intended. Just my odd sense of humor.)

I've not given her a link. But as was mentioned in the story, even she doesn't have tapes of these recordings, apart from a few of the shorter bumpers. She said she loves her new career, so I don't know at this point what level of effort she'd be willing or able to put toward getting this music released.
