I had always heard that they added a prosthetic piece to Sean Penn's nose for his portrayal of Harvey Milk in MILK. I was lucky to work as an extra on location in San Francisco for 2 weeks as a News Reporter covering various campaign events, night time rallies and the Memorial Candlelight March down Market Street. At one campaign party I was very close to Sean Penn and we interacted as I was asking him questions and congratulating him for winning a particular race. He spoke to me as Harvey Milk and it was quite cool. Unfortunately for me it does not appear in the final film. My most prominent scene is reporting atop the Castro Theater Marquee as Sean Penn (Milk) and Emile Hirsch (as Cleve Jones) are rallying a group on Castro Street. When I was so close to Penn in that one scene I never noticed his nose standing out.

The photo below truly shows the added piece. In my opinion MILK was the best film in the last 10 years and I think Penn definitely earned his well deserved Oscar.

So when will the fake nose be starring in another movie? Hopefully it will get top billing next time.
Hey, you brought it up.

Wait, was he talking about the fake nose? I'm not a big fake nose fan, but it's certainly nothing to sneeze at.

How do we know that is really Zoob on the marquee?
You can't see his face.
For all we know that could be Bill Carson up there!

Never seen this movie, interesting. That's some nose smile only Pinocchio belittles it. It must have been quite funny 1st viewing Penn's beak, Zoob. Another nice-job your time in movies, well-done.

Seller's in Pink Panthers had thee odd conker.

It's a most unusual film. I'm going to have to watch it again because that nose is bothering me. Oh, and it wasn't just the nose. The hair was diff'rent too. And in addition to the nose and the hair goes the voice. Just simpler to watch the movie!

Since I only saw it once, ultimately the most memorable chunk of the film is the incessant cajoling of the Josh Brolin character to perform the deed, with the added incentive any charges brought to bear would be waived - or something like that.

Edit: Having just watched the movie, there seems to be nothing particularly noticeable about the nose. But, like Stephen Boyd it appears Penn must have had eye contact lenses to promote Milk's eye color. He also seems to have lost quite some weight for the role.

My suggestion that White was 'cajoled' incessantly to assassinate Milk and the Mayor was only given a single 'suggestive' reference in the film. Interesting that I magnified that aspect. His much reduced sentence of 5 years for the cold blooded murder of two people on a formal charge of 'manslaughter' must surely rank as underhanded. What went wrong is definitely of interest - the film shows Milk and White's working relationship getting off mostly on the right foot and then degenerating over time. Very good, heartfelt performances all round. A lot has gone downhill since 2008.

Milk, which stars Sean Penn as the self-proclaimed "Mayor of Castro Street," ... And he doesn't just nail the externals, hiding behind a prosthetic nose. ... The movie opens with Harvey, a Wall Street suit, cruising Franco's ... Not him, but he takes to it like a man who's finally figured out what to do with his life. by http://epicfollowers.co.uk/

It's a bit unnerving seeing Sean Penn with a smile, he usually looks like someone's just farted in his direction. If he smiles a lot in this film, it's a great job of acting...unless it was CGI smile

The nose was better than the stupid Halloween teeth they gave Rami Malek in the Queen movie. I could not get past those stooopid toofs.

Those were Freddie Mercury's real teeth. Rami Malek confirmed it in a Variety interview. Apparently, Mercury had stated in his will that his rabbit's teeth should be bequeathed to either scientific research or any celebration of "The Arts". Only later did the bohemian singer's biographer admit that he was referring to his pet rabbit Bugsy, and not to his own silly-looking set of gnashers.

A cautionary tale. Always use precise language when drafting a will!
