I have 6 sealed copies of the LP.... anyone know if they're worth anything?

With the Intrada, you can easily insert the extra music into the stereo LP sequence and it sounds fine. This is what I did. The source music on the LP always felt very jarring to me, so I removed it.

Jarring is right. Out of curiousity how did you sequence the tracks?

I think I put all of the extra score between sides 1 and 2 of the LP, but I will have to check.

I should add that I am not categorically opposed to source music the way some people are, but for me it depends on the nature of the source music and how it plays in relation to the score tracks.

I don't get this. Has a 2019 release date, still listed as a pre-order, and the tracks seem to be reversed - that is, soundtrack album and film tracks are reversed from the 2016 CD. Anyone?:

Why reversed? The tracklisting is the same. Original album first (1-12, stereo), soundtrack next (13-32, mono). The Intrada-CD is "Temporarily out of stock" since some time. It seems new copies are available soon.

Ah, okay, see it now. The listing on SAE says Original Soundtrack, was thinking that was the album listings. I'll be okay. Didn't realize it had been out of stock for quite some time.

Intrada also list it as "Temporarily out of stock".

The main theme to Chinatown, I'd easily put in my top 3 favorite cues by Jerry.

So I have revisited this score, and I decided that after all, I do like the two solo piano standards, but not "I Can't Get Started."

I took the five short cues from the film version and combined them to create two tracks I had to use liberal crossfading, because the CD contains too much dead air sequenced into the tracks.

I retained the LP lineup.

So, for the third track on side 1, I have "Mulwray's Office/Midnight Swim/No Trespassing" clocking in at 2:35.

Then, on side 2, for the fourth track, I have "Second Thoughts/It's Not Worth It," clocking in at 2:09.

So, I end up with 13 tracks at 33 minutes.

Trumpet solo by Uan Rasey is beautifully performed.

Dumb question but the vinyl isn't expanded correct?

I just stumbled upon the Intrada release and am kicking myself — it seems, from comments here and elsewhere, that it’s very hard to find these days.

Does anyone here have a copy they’d sell to me?

I’d love to savor this album while on a long drive next week

Thanks!

CHINATOWN is among my all time favorite movies and all time favorite film scores. I very much enjoyed the Intrada expanded edition for the additional cues, especially the music at the orange groves, but that's just because I am a die hard fan of this score.
The original LP cut for CHINATOWN was excellently done, I love how cues like "Noah Cross" I+II etc. are combined on the original LP, and I return often to that when listening.

The extra tracks can be inserted into the LP program without an jarring change in sonics. You have to raise the levels a little. You also have to trim some silence at the ends of the short tracks.

As I mentioned, I combined those extra cues into two tracks, and inserted them into the LP order. I also got rid of "I Can't Get Started," not because I don't like the tune, but because I do not think it fits onto the album.
