It comes with it when you buy it. Unless you illegally downloaded it.

Finished Angel Season 2! It was great. The Wolfram & Hart storyline really seems to be also around for the next seasons. I like that. Well it sort of ended for Lindsey but I'm really sure it's not the last time I'll see W&H. The Season final-3-Part (or 4 part? I think "Belonging" is part 1 of the 4) was really strange but hella entertaining. I loved every second of it.

Rob Kral's music from the other dimension was also a real joy. but this and the flashback scenes are the only cues I really noticed over the Season. Everyting else was fine but nothing note-worthy on the first watch.

Off to Season 3!

Aaaaaand off to Buffy Season 2!... again...

Buffy clearly climbed up the ladder and is now one of my altime-favorite TV Shows and I got my sister (who never watched past S1) to watch the whole thing with me. She was positively surprised that "When She Was Bad" actually dealt with trauma and in generell about all the referencing to past episodes... She has absolutely no idea what the following Seasons bring... No I'm the one knoing what happens (insert evil laugh here).

And since I'm by now know each Composers styles I will play the Season 2 exclusive game: Who scored this episode? This will be fun.

Because this post isn't convoluted enough I'll add one more thing: When I finished Buffy for the first time, just one day after the LLL Collection arrived. It would be nice if when I finished the second run (probably in a year or so) ... you know.. Vol. 2... ...please...

Wouldn't that be nice? Along with an Angel one. I really hope La La gets to do it again. At least for Angel, Rob Kral said on Twitter that he might wanna try again.

If LLL can't, then maybe some other labels can do it?

I hope for LLL. They do it with much love. And I don't think I have seen other labels release soundtrack collections for decades-old tv shows.

We watched "Inca Mummy Girl", "Reptile Boy" & "Halloween" yesterday and the difference between Chris Beck and the other two is much bigger than I remembered. While "School Hard" had a solid score, introducing the Drusila waltz and some more cool orchestral scoring, "Reptile Boy" was a really unremarkable droning score. Especially between Inca Mummy and Halloween...

The episode itself isn't that good and even Beck wouldn't made a masterpiece out of it but the two are more capable than what they delivered here.

I noticed a cue in "Halloween" that I'd like to see on a Volume 2:
-The opening fight before the main titles. Don't know where it starts and stops but It's the only cue between start of the episode and opening credits.

I noticed something in the music of Season 3 and 4 which I don't understand. The cue "The Chase" by Shawn & Sean gets tracked over and over especially in S4. But I think it's always a new arrangement. Did Beck arranged it? Are Shawn & Sean uncredited additional Composers?
There was in generel a huge amount of tracking in S4 which went completely unnoticed on my first watch. "Where The Wild Things Are" contains that beautiful dies irae cue from the Faith two-parter for example. But boy is Season 5 tracked... "Shadow" had like at most 8 Minutes of original music and everything else was from previous episodes. The Buffy v Snake fight had the chinese music from "Fool For Love" and one of the more quiet cue from "Buffy v Dracula" (I think it's Dracula bites Buffy) is present in every Episode.

If you think season 5 is tracked a lot wait until you hear most of season 6. They must really have been cutting the music budget by that point. Thankfully by season 7 they let the composers loose with original music again.

The amount of tracked music in S6 was so huge that I actually noticed it during the first watch... I really look forward to listen to the S5 music all over again... In Season 6. big grin

Thomas Wanker really did some fine work for seasons 5 & 6 IMO, but he was clearly the most compromised in terms of budget and how much original music he was able to contribute to those seasons, compared with Beck before him.

I think Wanker did some really amazing stuff. But what I missed from him was themes. Specific themes, like character themes, love themes etc, like Beck did before him, and Duncan after him. He seemed to only have general themes, like a sad theme, fight theme, etc.

I really like Wander's music as well. If he would've written more I may would like his music more than Beck's. His style is much more gothic and symphonic orchestral which is something I really love.

Not taking "Hush" and "Restless" into consideration, I think he's just as good as Beck. I'm excluding those two episodes why Wander didn't got to score a Whedon-Written masterpiece. The three ones during Wander's run don't contain his music. One of them has a score by Beck, the second has music by Wheedon and arranged by Beck and the third does not have music at all. big grin

Because what I said in previous posts might sounded a little negative, there is still A TON of beautiful stuff like "Dawn's Kleptomania" in S6, Some cues from "Hells Bells", "Entropy" and probably some more. These are only the ones I noticed during the first watch. Rewatching S5 now and the whole sequence of Spike showing Buffy Riley in the Vamp-Nest in "Into The Woods" (~12:30-16:40) is stunningly amazing.

I'd say there is like 78 minutes of unreleased S5 & 6 music that would be a great addition to the already beautiful released stuff. smile

I think the heights of Christophe Beck are never reached again after his exit. His score was just so diverse in its arrangement.

Wander became quite repetitive and I thought it was somewhat disappointing that his themes were re-used again and again in different contexts. I really liked the Beck approach where themes were unique to a character or a certain leitmotif.

I still want another Buffy/Angel soundtrack. Who do we have to write to so that Disney will give La La La Land Records the rights?
