This could be really interesting- good for him. I wonder if it's for a commission or just for himself...

Shouldn't "V"oncerto be "C"oncerto in the subject line? Or am I missing something?

Ooooh, an Oingo Boingo reference. Love it!

Looking forward to this. I can't stand most of Elfman's big and boisterous action scores these days, but I absolutely admore most of his indie scores and concert music.

It's not a Gershwin reference?

Yes, but Gershwin cribbed it from Oingo Boingo

I can't wait to hear it, but now that he's really stepping into Classical waters with something called a "Concerto", is it a fair question to ask who orchestrated the piece?

Violin concerto is about 45 -50 minutes long and took up the majority of the first half of the concert. For the most part it sounds quite different from Elfman's other body of work, however a hint as to who orchestrated the piece might come from the section of the concerto which sounds quite like the violin solo in Edwardo The Barber from Edward Scissorthands. Overall a great piece of music and the concert was great and was virtually sold out. A nice mix of people were in attendance, average age would be around 30 which is great to see. Elfman was sitting two rows behind me for the first half and bounded onto to stage, followed by three photographers no less, after the concerto came to an end. I was hoping to catch Elfman as I was only a few seats away from his box, but alas he left it to join Cameron and Mauceri on stage at the end of the second half. For those of you who missed it, Ceská Televise, the Czech National Broadcaster, filmed the whole concert so it will eventually make itself online.

Just one thing before I go, the respect that was afforded to Elfman’s work was wonderful to see. Having seen Barry / Goodwin/ Marianelli / Nyman / Schifrin and Morricone in Dublin and footage of Armstrong in Prague and Horner in Vienna, I honestly think that European audiences in general have a greater appreciation of composers who seem to be taken for granted a bit state side.

Prague will also be welcoming Morricone and Newton Howard later this year, which I hopefully will see having missed Zimmer and Armstong when they visited.

Programme:
First half:
"I Forget" from Serenada Schizophrana
Violin Concerto dedicated to Sandy Cameron

Second half:
Batman
Alice in Wonderland
Edward Scissorthands

Encore:
The Simpsons

You mean whether he orchestrated the piece all by himself or not?

You'd dedicate something to her, too!
