I am thinking about buying the Limited Edition score to THE PACKAGE. Is it any good? I particularly like JNH's scores to Outbreak and Waterworld. Is The Package similar to these? Any help would be much appreciated.
It's a very good action score, IMHO. I find it a bit tough to compare to Waterworld, who is adventurous. Here it's urban action with suspense. What strikes me most is the very John Williamesque theme (especially the brass). You cna listen to 2 clips on http://store.yahoo.com/buysoundtrax/orsounpac.html Track 1 is more representative of the whole score than Track 6: you have the suspenseful opening (that Williams brass motif-- reminds me of CE3K); the action is mostly of the orchestral sort and is really great.

I have been wondering the same thing myself...I wish there more reviews availble online, or at least more sound clips.
I was able to get a few clips from the score, and I like what I hear. Very similar to Outbreak and Waterworld. Can't turn down the chance at a 'Limited Edition' with all the music from the movie.
I just saw this movie for the first time the other day and I was pleasantly surprised at how robust an action score it was from JNH. Olivier was right, in parts it is very Williams-esque, so much so that I didn't realize Howard had score the picture until I saw the credits.
In my opinion, you won't regret buying it. It is a good action score with plenty of suspense. The score is about 70% orchestral and 30% electronic. I'm not normally a fan of electronic music, but this works out very well.
Yes it's very much like a runner-up to The Fugitive with many of the same synth sounds. It is, at times, a very synth-heavy score that reminds me of "Off Limits". I wouldn';t compare it to Waterworld at all. The Package has a lot of great military/suspense/action music (For the Gene Hackman character and his Jackal-like pursuit) augmented by a late 80's "modern" synth urban tunes that even have a bit of a jazzy flair for the Tomm Lee Jones character sneaking around (Detroit, is it?) and plotting his attack. I really enjoy this score and was thrilled when it finally got a release. Strange cover though......
I like the robust orchestral stuff, great pumping militiary style action...but the 80's synth cues leave me cold, very dated and dating over the passage of time. The cover is awful, like a lot of Prometheus' packaging IMO. That's just my personal pref'. Still, it's the music that counts and they have released some great CD's down the years, so more power to them (and cheesy packaging sure beats this downloading itune bollocks!)
