Ms. Horne sings about five different verses never before heard to It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. A mind-blowing way to end her classic album.

Glad to see that "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" was nominated for best song:

Academy Award for Best Original Song/Nominees (1964)
Charade
Henry Mancini, Johnny Mercer
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
Ernest Gold, Mack David
More (Theme From 'Mondo Cane')
Riz Ortolani, Norman Newell, ...
Call Me Irresponsible

Lena Horne: Lena in Hollywood
With beautiful arrangements by Ray Ellis. The arrangement for Box à Louer "It had better be tonight" is outstanding. Michael Bublé based his recording of the song on it it seems.

He is a great artist and he also has class. I love all of his albums.

Just discovered a terrific movie themed album from jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd.

"Hollywood Byrd", Charlie Byrd with Orchestra & Chorus, was released in 1967 and arranged by Johnny Carson's Tommy Newsom.

The main draw on here is The Wishing Doll (Elmer Bernstein & Mack David) from "Hawaii". I'd been listening to some Jackie DeShannon who also covered this song, then found that Nat's brother Ike Cole did a perfectly smooth rendition. And that led me to this Charlie Byrd album.

Other tracks on here are Any Wednesday (George Duning), Wish Me A Rainbow (Livingston-Evans) from "This Property is Condemned", In the Arms of Love and Moment to Moment (both Mancini), Alfie (Bacharach), Georgy Girl. And wait till you hear Born Free - a potentially overplayed song gets a fresh overhaul here.

This is mostly an instrumental album, but the chorus comes in more often than not.

So listen to The Wishing Doll, then Born Free and don't be surprised if the whole album isn't being played.

And now for something absolutely newish from this past year.

Kyle Eastwood (Clint's son) released a movie themed album called "Cinematic" late 2019.

Look at the tracks on this album and see if you're not reaching for the credit card to order this.

1. Bullitt (I love his new arrangement on this).
2. Taxi Driver (a pretty faithful version here with some flourishes).
3. Windmills of Your Mind (this a vocal in french by Camille Bertault and I love this rendition).
4. The Eiger Sanction (Yup, you read that right - and it's wonderful) Kyle had to cover some of his Dad's films.
5. Gran Torino (with a vocal by Hugh Coltman) is the official single and there's a music video on YouTube.
6. Pink Panther (I guess it had to be here, but given fresh life).
7. Per le Antiche Scale (a rare Ennio Morricone film that is the real surprise on here).
8. Charade (Same as with Pink P., it's Mancini and is a perennial fave.)
9. Unforgiven (this is the 3rd theme from one of his Dad's films).
10. Skyfall (this is one of the more heavily jazz flavoured tracks, but it does swing along).
11. Gran Torino (Instrumental version)

I can't tell you how much I'm playing this jazz themed album. It's true that some albums don't have one bad track on them and can be played to death. This is one of them.
