John Williams had some nice things to say:

“During my friendship with Kobe, he was always seeking to define and understand inspiration even while modestly, and almost unknowably, he was an inspiration to countless millions. His enormous potential contribution to unity, understanding and social justice must now be mourned with him.” —John Williams

It is hard for me to wrap around the fact that Williams outlived Kobe.

Mr. Stéphane Coëdel aka. steffromuk (https://www.flickr.com/people/steffromuk/), for being a director & motion designer and animator living and working in Los Angeles and someone who works as an artist, I would have hoped for more compassion. We come together on this forum as we all share this common similarity, the love of film/tv/new media music. In the future, comments like this, maybe there is another forum better suited for them.

Yeah, this is not the right thing to do either.

This link in his profile, https://www.flickr.com/photos/steffromuk/sets/72157664354542528/with/38903889865/ goes to his soundtrack art page where his name is clearly listed. His FSM profile mentions he’s an animator. He does not hide this information from his FSM friends. If you don’t want people to know your name or what not, remove links that go to your own personal web pages. He clearly knew this and had no issue anyone knowing this info.

I just looked. It's all there. If somebody doesn't want their identity out there they should not include it in their profile.

Is this a new low for the forum? I think so. Escalating stupidity on a scale that’s frankly apocalyptic for the forum unless the last few posts are removed.

1. Someone posts some well known - if bizarrely buried over the years - news at a time it’s likely to annoy some / many.

2. A frankly Trumpian attack occurs going beyond the original poster’s timing and into a Trumplandian defence that sexual assault (all but admitted to) doesn’t count if it’s a while ago. Or if the case was ‘dismissed’, which is either offensive or just offensively dumb. Accuser never went back on her claims, yet wouldn’t testify. Accused admits non consent. Do the math.

3. The original poster is ‘outed’ by another board member.

4. We’re told this is fair game due to a link in his profile which identifies them.

#3 and #4 are very Don Junior, ain’t they. What outcome are you hoping for exactly?

I’d argue #1 is perhaps bad judgement given the board. and #2 is just plain idiocy.

But if #3 and #4 aren’t nipped in the bud RIGHT NOW, this board should be terminated. Many members are known. Shall we out them all? Some popular posters have been convicted of horrendous things (especially considering their current employment), been declared bankrupt (whilst buying soundtracks in the $thousands), had public divorces, etc, etc. Is this all fair game for the board now? Cos it’s online?

And, of course, if you think outing people just because information is available, you can’t possibly take issue with the original post in question, can you?

Doesn't make what you did any less skeevy.

I oppose censorship and I recognize that a full accounting (read: not in this thread) of Kobe Bryant’s legacy must consider the dark chapter referenced in the Hollywood Reporter article. That said, it’s highly inappropriate to respond to news of a person’s untimely death with nothing but a negative internet link, in what boils down to an attempt to reduce his life to a single episode about which the most important conclusions can’t be drawn. Furthermore, the man accomplished so much in the 17 years since that this *question mark* should hardly be used to define him.

Getting back to the intent of this thread, I’m sure we were all reminded of the beautiful collaboration and friendship between Kobe Bryant and John Williams when we heard of Bryant’s tragic death.

It’s a wonderful score for a great little slice of cinema. Can anyone provide an update regarding a potential release of this music?

I think it's horribly wrong to bring up an allegation that was dropped from court, he pleaded innocent to, and was settled out-of-court. If one wants to argue the reasons for all that and whether he was innocent, okay, but not here.

Having said that, I think it's also wrong to say something like that cant' be brought up, but I add the caveat that it should be for the guilty; yes, a Hitler example: When Hitler died, if there had been the internet, his death doesn't mean we couldn't mention what he did. Death is not a free pass.

Most bizarre appearance of Godwin's Law ever.

Godwin's Law is made up by some idiot who thinks citing a famous person widely known is an invalid argument. It's right up there with garbage like the Bechdel test.

Its a nice little film/score that highlights Kobe's & Williams prolific abilities that images their energy pity its very short, i'm glad Kobe won that Oscar the amount of work & loyalty too one team he was like an ambassador too L.A. - Lakers, Obama certainly admired Kobe I think everyone did.

It's a shame that this score hasn't even been released as a digital download. I feel like it would be a fitting tribute to release this and have the proceeds go Kobe's family foundation or his favorite charity.

Some label should do an odds & ends CD. After all, if the Elf-box can juggle various studio rights into one set because of Elfman/Burton, surely Williams can have such rights hammered out for an odds & ends release.

I doubt Williams would have any enthusiasm for ever releasing this without Kobe’s voice, though I would love to have it both with and without the narration.
