Perhaps he was afraid she'd kill him? Which is certainly understandable. Less understandable is going all Bury Your Gays - Clementine (who we see going off with a female customer) and Elsie (who fancies Clementine) are pretty much dunzo; Hector graphically kills the gay techician who molests him, and Hector himself is blocked from leaving by Maeve after all he's done for her. I blame J.J. Abrams (see Star Trek Into Darkness).

Thandie newton's naked debriefing every week was a highlight that kept me watching!

So it's wasn't a total waste of time.

Yes, it succeeded at being a fine masturbratory tool. Probably why HBO wants six seasons. They're still showing "Real Sex" episodes from the '90s.

People pay for this? It's all over the internet for free. I need good story's and characters.

Ok gang ...dive in.
What did you think?

We've just bought a NOW TV box, having realised that (1) we're never going back to Sky, and (2) that Sky will never let Virgin Media show Sky Atlantic. One of the series we got it for is Westworld, and we're currently at episode 5. I haven't read any of the posts on this thread so far, save for Bill's initial one and a quick glance at Rory's rant.

So far, we like it, and while it isn't right up there with the best we're finding it to be interesting and thought-provoking. It helps that we like the main actors, and although the intro to the main title music is sort of sub-Game of Thrones, the rest of it is fine and the score choices generally are really enjoyable.

Will definitely finish it before Christmas, whereupon I'll read the rest of this thread and perhaps (if you're lucky!) comment accordingly.

And to continue with my "rant" the series doesn't bother to explains how the park affords all the technology and infrastructure on display. Take the nudity of the androids. All the androids have complete human skin. Now this may be necessary for androids that have to function as prostitutes, but does the town mayor or blacksmith or school teacher need to get naked too? Couldn't they have saved a lot of expense not having to completely cover every android with skin but just clothes? And I know that each guest is paying thousands of dollars to visit the park, but I just don't see how that could pay for everything. The series is rather dumb on these particulars.

--------------------
I think they have covered that somewhat in passing.
William (later the man in black) bankrolled the park during it's early difficult times (it's been mentioned he is a wealthy businessman/benefactor.

Yeah, but that doesn't work for me. That park looks to cost several billion and the overhead has to be killer. Imagine the electric bill, unless besides androids, Anthony Hopkins developed practical nuclear fusion.

I'll just say there's too much required to suspend my disbelief, like why so many in our culture would want to spend thousands to wallow in actual gun violence and killing. Despite what goes on today with video games, I'd like to think there's enough people with a proper sense of what's truly sicko not to want to spend a small fortune on really experiencing that. Even the Ed Harris character seems to have his limits. Not my idea of enjoyable nihilistic themed entertainment.

Talk about a mixed bag!!!!!!

STart with the acting. You have wonderful performances by Hopkins, Wood, Newton, Wright contrasted with ridiculous overacting by other actors whose names I do not know (the lab tech, the script writer, the yuppie investor etc). And that chick who was trying to oust Ford > Wasn't she a bit young to be a corporate honcho?

The series was really dull and uninvolving for the first few eps.
It ended pretty strong.

ANother great soundtrack by Rwadhi!!!

How can they cast Lili Taylor as a prostitute and not get her nekkid (she has the best derriere in cinema!) wink

The ending was pretty confusing and how could they kill off Anthony???

Very provocative themes explored with intelligence
THe "western" scenes did nothing for me..

Check it out!
brm

" How has the park avoided multiple fatalities and severe injuries throughout the 30 odd years?
While the hosts can't shoot the guests, there are plenty of other ways a guest could get killed or maimed."

Yeah, that was the big plot hole in the thing

ANone else notice this:

the Hopkins character in WESTWORLD closely resembles the creator of JURRASIC PARK in the novel (not the film version)

I hate apples, McGann! I hate 'em!

I do like citrus fruit, though. Your lemons, your oranges, your grapefruits.

And i was never a thing. That was just a rumour started by the other lads.

Late to the party.

Ms. Birri and I liked the first season. The second season seemed to employ a lot of action/adventure cliches, and we couldn't finish it.

Oh well...
