I can only repeat the usual suspects and add Howl's Moving Castle, especially the pre-final symphonic album with some very different music.

But this is my favorite single go-to Hisaishi album, partly because it is a great summary of my favorite of his works for Ghibli, and mostly because of the unique version of Madness from Porco Rosso, just about my favorite track.

Hisaishi Meets Miyazaki Films

I forgot a little mentioned film called "Arion". Sort of his "Conan The Barbarian".
As well as "Venus Wars". I think he did that one.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya and The Wind Rises are absolutely perfect!

This is a good opportunity to make people aware (again) of this glorious Joe Hisaishi/Studio Ghibli concert:

Take two hours out of your day, settle yourself (and/or your friends and/or family) and ENJOY! smile

I figure I will add a few that are not mentioned above.

Cloud on a Slope has 3 volumes of soundtracks that are all fantastic (except for the Sarah Brightman tracks).
Tenshi Meisatsu is a fantastic drama score.
NHK Shinkai Project: Deep Sea Creatures also very nice.
A Tale of Ululu's Wonderful Forest is a lovely lush score.
And Departures has a fantastic main theme.

Is anyone familiar with Shigure no ki from 1998? I can only find a piano cover of one track on youtube and a short amazon customer review online. No opinions, samples, reviews, nothing.

Is it any good? Symphonic, jazzy, or synthy? Any opinion appreciated.

There's too many. I've over 30 Hisaishi's CDs. He's the man, the myth, the legend.

And yes, "Shigure No Ki" AKA "Diary Of Early Winter Shower" is an amazing score, one of his best.

BTW, everybody know him for his Miyazaki's scores, but I think, that his non-Miyazaki discography is much better smile

I only have two Hisaishi scores, and they’re both for Miyazaki films: Ponyo and Spirited Away. They’re delightful, but they both have an abundance of too-brief tracks that simply peter out. Has Hisaishi done any concert works based on his collaborations with Miyazaki?

Try Princess Mononoke - The Symphonic Suite album. It is absolutely fabulous.

All of his Miyazaki work, obviously.

But outside that, I'm also quite fond of MIRACLE APPLES from 2013.

Thought I bump this thread to repost his concert. It's pure joy from beginning to end. I'm frankly amazed by the whole production and how even the youngest performers were flawless with their professionalism and discipline during a live event.
