Yes, two further endings were prepared and the ambiguous one simply has a freeze frame on Klaus Kinski with the idea you work out yourself what happens next. The hero may or may not survive.
Don't know if I should describe the other for fear of spoilering exactly why happens. This was properly filmed with the whole cast. Apart from Film Movement's upgrading of the film, it has these two endings as extras. The blu Ray is great with an Alex Cox intro, the very man who I included in my recording on that BBC 2 recording. I think I actually watched that intro, but not the flippin' film, twice!
So I love this film (saw the new restoration in theater a few years ago) and score. What hope is there of an expanded release of the latter on CD, I wonder?
I'd go for an expanded one. Never got around to getting the release that was split with another score. Hopefully at some point we'll get what we have with Two Mules.
The scene with the horse going through the snow (is it the opening? Can't remember) and the Restless theme is fantastic, but the rest of the film and score I can take or leave it. The 40 mins or so on the CD is about all I would really want.
