The odds of any other label having the same taste as I do is about 1%. I like it that way. My purpose is to preserve and give exposure to composers and scores and genres that most of you just don't care too much about. I really do this more for me and a handful of like-minded people than for the "vast film score community." While I'd love everybody to be happy with what MMM releases, I've learned after all these years that that just isn't going to happen. So I put out music that makes me and a number of other people extremely happy.
I have taken a break from that part of music because I contributed to quite a few books and DVD projects pertaining to films and film music, both as a writer, editor, ghost-writer, etc. A few of these books have already been released, a few more are done and sitting at the publishers. Right now I'm helping three people write books about their glory days in Hollywood, and I've just finished my first humor book, which should be out in a month, and I'm halfway through another humor book.
I have a couple of other companies as well, two Scottie dogs and a wife, and more friends than I know what to do with, so everything is keeping me incredibly busy. Trust that as soon as I get caught up on some things, I hope to get back to some more MMM releases. But before I got into the music business, I had been a writer for almost 15 years, and I have been doing more work in that area lately.
But I do try to help other labels when they ask me for help, and 9 times out of 10 I ask that my name not appear anywhere on the project because I enjoy being behind the scenes. Here's hoping I can put out more music in the near-future than only about 7% of you will be interested in!
]Oh, and Jameson is right. The book Tom Weaver wrote and he was kind enough to let me tag along on won the Rondo for "Best Book of the Year" and also the "Best Primary Reference Source Book" for the Pop Culture Institute or whatever they're called. And for the past few years Tom and I have been working on a book two or three times larger than the 400-page "Creature Chronicles," which we hope to have out maybe next year.
