Hot take: this is a really good score. One of Intrada’s best releases.

HOTTER TAKE: It's my favourite JAWS score. EDIT: Apparently I already said that.

HOTTER TAKE: It's my favourite JAWS score. EDIT: Apparently I already said that. Haha maybe that's a bit too far, but that is indeed a hotass take! I have the original LP and a version of that on CD, and even though I usually return to that one when I want to hear the score, the 2CD version Intrada put out is just so comprehensive that I guess I'll do some sort of nutso hybrid to sweep up the extra bits from the film tracks (like that weird source cue that's basically just a version of the love theme). Parker's "happy" music is just as good as the action stuff toward the end, too, so it's nice to have little bits of that in the complete tracks. I saw the film in 3D a year or so ago at a revival screening (35mm, too) and walked away from it thinking that if this film were part of the first season a Jaws TV show, it would be one of the best episodes.

I've got the original LP release of this score, so I skipped its release on CD, but I snatched up the 2CD set when it came out. It is top notch (something that cannot be said about the movie. :-) )

Grabbed it during the sale, before being terrorized by the looming, 3D SOLD OUT smashing through... as a still image!

It's a wonderful film score; I got the original soundtrack LP way back when it came out (and I still have it), and when Intrada released this 2CD set, I had to have it. It uses just the right amount of Williams' own classic "JAWS" theme but otherwise completely finds its own tone. Amazing that Parker didn't become a more high profile film composer after this. OK, the movie was nothing to write home about, but the music was an excellent third "JAWS" entry.
