This is a companion thread to my posting on a Carlo Savina discography.

There may be over 80 previously unreleased/unavailable titles, either within the C.A.M. archives @ Gruppo Sugar or perhaps the Carlo Savina Estate.

I've selected over 60 from IMDB which I think might have enough appeal to soundtrack collectors. (a number of titles from the 1950s, for example, appear to be straight dramas or comedies and I haven't included them).

I start the ball rolling with the 1959 HEROD THE GREAT. smile

1. HEROD THE GREAT (1959)
2. ARRIVA LA BANDA (1959)
3. HEAD OF A TYRANT (1959)

61. HUNTERS OF THE GOLDEN COBRA (1982)
62. DOWN THERE IN THE JUNGLE (1986)

Already, I can envision several "double-header" albums of Savina soundtracks:

  • "Head Of A Tyrant" and "The Tyrant Of Castille"
  • ["Assignment: Outer Space" - no original music per SS] and "Racconti Di FantaScienza"
  • "Maciste Contro Lo Sceicco"(available for albums!) and "Maciste Contro I Mongoli"
  • "War Gods Of Babylon"(available!) and "Slave Queen Of Babylon"
  • "Zorro And The 3 Musketeers" and "D'Artagnan And The 3 Musketeers"
  • "Triumph Of The 10 Gladiators" and "Spartacus And The 10 Gladiators"
  • "The Killer Reserved 9 Seats" and "9 Guests For A Crime"

Maybe Stefan Schlegel could let us know which titles are known to exist (and which no longer exist), and which might reside in the Savina Estate or could be issued from Sugar Group?

IMDB is weird because there is a mix of English and Italian. Here are the unreleased westerns, and I suspect most of them are lost or they would be already released?

Il piombo e la carne (1964)
    Django, killer per onore (1965)
Per un dollaro di gloria (1966)
    Pochi dollari per Django (1966)
Sette donne per una strage (1966)
    Joe l'implacabile (1967)
Giurò... e li uccise ad uno ad uno (1968)
...e lo chiamarono Spirito Santo (1971)
Il tredicesimo è sempre Giuda (1971)
    Un animale chiamato uomo (1972)
Spirito santo e le cinque magnifiche canaglie (1972)
Bada alla tua pelle Spirito Santo! (1972)
Hai sbagliato... dovevi uccidermi subito! (1972)
Là dove non batte il sole (1974)

It would be nice to have the remaining EP/LP only on CDs. "Le spie uccidono a Beirut" and "Ordine Firmato In Bianco" sound like good choices because of the Spy and Police genres.

Savina, Carlo - 1965 - Le spie uccidono a Beirut (LP only CAM)
Savina, Carlo - 1964 - L'Ora di Uccidere (LP only CAM)
Savina, Carlo - 1964 - Amore Mio (LP only CAM)
Savina, Carlo - 1962 - La Vita Provvisoria (LP only CAM)
Savina, Carlo - 1977 - Cari mostro dal mare (LP only CAM)
Savina, Carlo - 1975 - Ordine Firmato In Bianco (7" single CAM)
Savina, Carlo - 1974 - La profanazione (7" single CAM)
Savina, Carlo - 1973 - Ingrid sulla strada (7" single CAM)
    Savina, Carlo - 1964 - Liolà (7" single CAM)
Savina, Carlo - 1959 - Europa di Notte (7" single Pathé)

I suppose they could also release the full CAM albums for these with at least one compilation track:

    Le quattro verità (1962)
    Gli amanti latini (1963)
    Contronatura (1969)
Le calde notti di don giovanni (1971)
L'assassino ha riservato nove poltrone (1974)
    La profanazione (1974)

Perhaps there can be a theme for a string of Savina releases?

I suspect slint would like westerns.

For the most part, it is much easier to identify the Western movies. I'd say I would be slightly more interested in early 70s Giallo, although it is a bit less easy to identify them. Many of the posters look like Giallo movies, but otherwise I don't really know.

I would say that Savina has the most unreleased westerns along with Lallo Gori, Marcello Giombini, Carlo Rustichelli and Francesco de Masi. However, I think it has been established that most of the westerns from the latter composers are from Nazionalmusic and are lost. I don't know about Savina, however.

It would have been more reasonable to list the original Italian titles instead of many of those English ones from IMDB as it is a quite laborious task to find the correct original Italian titles again.
And you have probably also overlooked that there are three scores in your list above which have already been available on CD during the last years: FILM D'AMORE E D'ANARCHIA (= LOVE AND ANRCHY) was composed by Nino Rota and was only conducted by Savina. It was released by Saimel on CD.
Of course also JOKO, INVOCA DIO...E MUORI (= VENGEANCE) and HIPNOS: FOLLIA DI UN MASSACRO (MASSACRE MANIA) have been released some years ago by GDM and Beat Records.
We can also remove the two titles ASSIGNMENT: OUTER SPACE and SEVEN VENGEFUL WOMEN as Savina did not contributre any original music for these films (probably only some stock music from other Savina scores was used).
These are the titles from the CAM catalogue which are owned by Sugar and which could probably be released quite easily on CD. Where necessary I have added the original Italian (or Spanish) film title:
    1. HEROD THE GREAT (1959) ERODE IL GRANDE
    2. ARRIVA LA BANDA (1959)
    3. HEAD OF A TYRANT (1959) GIUDITA E OLOFERNE
    4. I BACCANALI DI TIBERIO (1960) (scored together with Lavagnino)
    6. FERRAGOSTO IN BIKINI (1960)
    7. BEAUTY ON THE BEACH (1961) BELLEZZE SULLA SPIAGGIA
    9. LE MAGNIFICHE SETTE (1961)
    10. SCANDALI AL MARE (1961)
    11. GIRL UNDER THE SHEET (1961) LA RAGAZZA SOTTO IL LENZUOLO
    15. FURY OF ACHILLES (1962) L'IRA DI ACHILLE
    19. LA SPADA DEL CID (1962)
    23. THE TYRANT OF CASTILE (1963) SFIDA AL RE DI CASTIGLIIA
    27. SECRET AGENT FIREBALL (1965) LE SPIE UCCIDONO A BEIRUT (for some years already available from CAM as digital download)
    29. KILLERS ARE CHALLENGED (1966) A 077: SFIDA AI KILLERS
    31. FURY IN MARRAKESH (1966) FURIA A MARRAKECH
    41. NIGHTS AND LOVES OF DON JUAN (1971) LE CALDE NOTTI DI DON GIOVANNI
    47. UN ANIMALE CHIAMATO UOMO (1972)
    49. THE LEGEND OF BLOOD CASTLE (1973) LE VERGINI CAVALCANO LA MORTE
    50. THE KILLER RESERVED NINE SEATS (1974) L'ASSASSINO HA RISERVATO NOVE POLTRONE
    51. NIGHT OF THE ASSASSINS (1974) LA NOCHE DE LOS ASESINOS
    52. NAKED AND LUSTFUL (1974) CARNALITA'
    54. A DIARY OF A MURDERESS (1975) PERVERSIONE
    55. REFLECTIONS IN BLACK (1975) IL VIZIO HA LE CALZE NERE
    56. NINE GUESTS FOR A CRIME (1977) NOVE OSPITI PER UN DELITTO
    57. FRIENDLY MONSTERS FROM THE DEEP (1977) CARI MOSTRI DEL MARE
    59. RACCONTI DI FANTASCIENZA (9 episodes of a TV series) (1979)
    60. LE COMTE DE MONTE-CRISTO (1979 TV Mini-series)
    61. HUNTERS OF THE GOLDEN COBRA (1982) FUGA DALL'ARCIPELAGO MALEDETTO
    62. DOWN THERE IN THE JUNGLE (1986) LAGGIU', NELLA GIUNGLA

I know that in the Savina etsate there is also MACISTE CONTRO LO SCEICCO and LE SETTE FOLGORI DI ASSUR (= WAR GODS OF BABYLON) available. They could certainly also be issued on CD because there are no big problems with the music publisher.
It could be that Beat has also received some additional tapes from the Savina estate in the meantime where the rights belonged to Nazionalmusic, Sonorfilm, Chiappo etc. Nowadays those rights belong to Beat, and a few western titles (and also LA CIECA DI SORRENTO) have alreeady been released on CD in this way. So a few more of the 60s Savina peplums and westerns in your list (where the rights owner often was one of these music publishers) could probably already be in Beat's hands.

    Joe l'implacabile (1967)
    Un animale chiamato uomo (1972)
Là dove non batte il sole (1974)

These three westerns belong to the CAM cataloguie. Therefore certainly no problem to release them on CD.

As to LIOLÀ: Although the single was issued by CAM in 1964, they didn't have the rights and therefore also not the original tapes. Rights belong to Universal Music Publishing. But at least the tapes are apparently available in the Savina estate.

Many thanks to Stefan S. for his input!

I apologize for the flip-flop between English and Italian, but I merely cut-n-pasted the IMDB results from the "composer" category they had under Carlo Savina.
For whatever reason, they utilize the English titles on some entries whilst others remain in Italian.
I did not realize that the "Joko" item was called "Vengeance" in English, so my initial raw data needed revisions (and probably still does).

I know I await in hope for many of the above to become available on albums!

    22. MACISTE CONTRO I MONGOLI (1963)

    This movie is on YouTube:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=E6rRtVFCBeI

I'm lovin' this Savina music score as I watch some scenes.

Too bad this title doesn't seem like a possible future album according to above input (not from C.A.M. and not from the Savina estate). frown

  • "The Killer Reserved 9 Seats" and "9 Guests For A Crime"

Too bad Quartet didn't (or wasn't able to) realize a 2-score album which would pair the 'other' Savina-scored murder mystery with the number 9 in its title...

My guess is, there is no Pizza Connection between the two. 43'55", much music in 9 Guests For A Crime?

No idea, Ag^Janus, how many minutes of music exist for the 1977 NINE GUESTS FOR A CRIME.
If both the scores couldn't fit onto an 80-minute CD, then perhaps a disc #2 would have been also a possibility.
Stefan Schlegel had confirmed that the Sugar Group has NINE GUESTS FOR A CRIME in their C.A.M. vaults, so ... maybe Daniela Durazzini @ Sugar is the best person to learn this info from?

43'55", much music in 9 Guests For A Crime?

I got this Quartet CD recently, and the disc runtime for L'Assassino Ha Riservato None Poltrone displays as 44 minutes & 23 seconds.

Only 28 seconds difference - so no big fuss, but I wonder why Quartet's site lists 43:55?

    9 guesses for a time.

Soundtrackcollector has the time as 43'19".

THE KILLER RESERVED NINE SEATS (19'74")

I enjoy this score. Strong all round. 5' out of 7'.

    My player registers 44'21".

Am really enjoying Beat Records' L'Ira di Achille (Fury of Achilles). An extremely varied score almost 74 minutes long. Recording isn't as bright as I would have liked, and there are some dropouts and distortion, but in terms of the writing, it's an excellent addition to my peplum collection. A host of musical influences in the score, including Rozsa, Masetti, Nascimbene, etc. While not a sonic masterpiece, the score itself is quite masterful.
