Does anyone know the state of the original recordings of the Star Wars trilogy? If LLL, Intrada, Varese, or whoever was ever given the go ahead to make “THE ULTIMATE STAR WARS SET(tm)”, could they? (I can dream, right?) Or are the sources too far gone?

Yeah I never understood why the last several issues sounded so poor. Were they from the actually master tapes because they sound like old multi generation dubs. The Arista releases sounded better, are they from the same source as the RCA and Sony's?

Who needs that????? Honestly, WHO NEEDS THAT!!!! THERE's TONS, and I do mean TONS, of Star Wars music about. The original releases, the re-releases, the special releases, the new recordings of original releases, the new recordings of re-releases, the new recordings of special releases ...

Can't you people EVER think outside the box?????????? Instead of the same old thing with minor changes that nobody gives a crap about - NEW music, or obscure music getting the release they deserve - or indeed ANY kind of release???!

Honestly!

Welcome to the land of no imagination!

Quite a very tricky way of telling another person that you're unfortunately not able to answer his question. wink

BTW I too would be very interested in a profound answer to the original question! smile

I agree. There is no need for any other releases of the original trilogy scores. They are fine the way they are.

Would still like proper complete editions of Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The sith though.

Like every time you post in a thread how much you think a score sucks, other dead composers would have done it better and it didn't deserve a release?

I find most of your posts condescending, why not use your imagination and start threads about scores you think are worthy to discuss or just say anything positive at all for a change?

P.S. on topic I just bought the 30th anniversary Corellian set and the sequels could benefit from a proper remastering, but as is it's still great to hear these scores, have been enjoying it a lot.

I'm doing that all the time, you're jst not reading the respective threads. Instead you're reading this one, concerned entirely with a line of scores exhausted completely, entirely.

And yes, I'm aware of the apparent irony. It's just that the forces of light have to be present in places of darkness to tell some people that they live in the darkness.

Glad to hear that the actual masters at least still seem to exist!
Thank you very much for taking your time to share your knowledge, MV! smile

If hi-res digital audio had caught on, I'm sure we'd already have seen SACD or Blu-Ray audio versions of the original trilogy scores.

But let's be honest. These scores are as close to "orchestral pop" as it gets. When format preferences shift in a mass way, these scores will undeniably, absolutely be there.

My question: Have the tapes been baked yet?

If FSM had the ability to upvote comments, I would do it with this one.

Whoever is ranting is apparently on my ignore list, so it’s a bit like reading from ghosts.

To those that gave serious answers, thank you.

MV, obviously this means you’re working on Star Wars now, right? wink

It is interesting that I don’t feel like Star Wars is “settled” like I do the Star Trek scores. Or Lord of the Rings. OTOH, what other series are THAT close to perfect? Bond isn't. Potter certainly isn't. I gather The Matrix is gaining.

If anyone has a chance with Star Wars its Intrada.

As for the rest, LOTR is pretty much taken care of. Bond is still up in the air (a matter I hope we can resolve in the near fture..at least on SOME titles). Potter is so close I can taste it. smile

As for Matrix, its just a matter of artwork approval at WB (and, as you know, that can take some time)
