Taking down the tree today, with a 2017 California Cab, while listening to Dave Grusin's "Eddie Coyle" and "Condor."

Ahh after 3 days of, did you try El Condor and Condorman?

Sorry I missed yesterday's meetup. Unfortunately, work got in the way. Today though, I am enjoying this:

Slowly starting to recover now, after Friday's binge. These meetings always take a toll, especially because I have to keep drinking untill 2-3 AM in order to accomodate the afternoon Americans. smile

Thanks to all of you impulsive spirits who chimed in after the JWFAN failure. Next meeting will be announced a week in advance, probably in early February.

I have beers with 10% every weekend! Alcohol content matters in regards to taste; makes it more fullbodied. But it shouldn't be a lot more. I had one with 20% or so in Belgium a few years back (can't remember its name, unfortunately), and at that point it stops being beer and becomes licor instead.

I think the strongest I've had was a Belgian beer at 12% which was okay, but obviously you're not drinking that much of it!

Yes, it is 8.4% alcohol. Double IPAs tend to pretty high in alcohol content. I don't think I would want to go much higher as the alcohol flavor is too prominent for me.

Some of the best Belgian beers are in the 10-12% range.

People are always shocked when they see the ABV on the bottles I take to parties, which is weird to me, because the wine they're drinking is always 12-13%, and nobody makes a fuss about downing a bottle of that. I'd rather drink less bottles with high ABV than lots of bottles with standard amount.

I tend to be the opposite. That's why I drink copious amounts of Carlsberg, as it's only 3.8%. In a can anyway, I'm not sure what it is on draught.

Oh gosh, that's even lower than the 4.7% you get in regular stores. I could just as well drink sparkling water instead! wink

I am originally from Utah, and state law limited the alcohol content of beer sold in stores or on tap to 3.2%. My brother who still lives there, said they recently raised the limit to 4%. If you want anything stronger you have to go to a state run liquor store with limited hours, is much more expensive, and by law can't refrigerate any of the booze. The local microbreweries do what they can under these restrictions and still make some great tasting beer.

That sounds even crazier than our "wine monopoly" here in Norway (wherein all beverages with a higher alcohol content than 4.7% must be sold in the stateowned chain store). But there are no limits for what you can get in taps at bars.

All this talk of beer has me reaching for what remains of my second Trappist beer box...the Trappistes Rochefort 'no. 6'.

Ahhh. Totally envious, Falkirkbairn. That's a good one! Alas, I have a "white week" untill Friday and can't join you in absentia.

Just deciding whether to have a 'no. 8' next?

This is the first day I haven't had a beer since the 9th of August 1978.

Aargh! Disaster struck today. The mutated corona virus was detected in one of Oslo's neighbouring municipalities, which means that the government closed down all wine monopolies in Oslo (since they usually attract big crowds and queues, I assume). And they will remain closed out January, and probably beyond. This means that I cannot buy wine or strong beers for the foreseeable future. Will have to make do with low alcohol grocery store beers. Of all the corona regulations implemented over the last year, this is the one that I find the most frustrating. But it is what it is.

Trying to ease my sorrow in a store-bought, 4.7% can of Brooklyn Lager.

I feel your pain, Thor! What a ridiculous law. How on earth are we supposed to get through semi-confinement without booze? It's what keeps us going. I suppose you could buy hundreds of crates of pisswater, but it's really no substitute.

That truly sucks.

Can you order beer and wine on Amazon?
