400K new cases globally on Friday. Fauci said a vaccine should be available in April, so unless it fizzles out I'd expect it to be around till at least mid-2021.

A few people, in my office, are finding it hard because of social distancing and mask wearing. They can't kiss the bosses arse, like usual...

I'm getting out & about. I was at a busy street market yesterday, & then there's my charity shop addiction. Just be sensible. I wear a face mask on public transport & in shops & in all enclosed spaces (& I put it on a few times at the market yesterday when it got really packed), I make sure not to touch my mouth with my hands, & I thoroughly wash my hands when I get home (but I've always done that). I'm worried about my brother-in-law up in Newcastle, he's 73 & has hardly been out in the last seven months, & his health is really going downhill, & it wasn't great to start with.

It's like our house. I'm at home with mum and dad. Mum is 78 and feeling it. On the whole she's ok. She's.had a few problems but they're sorted. On the other hand, my dad is diabetic. He has kidney disease ( they are deteriorating ) which seems to be stable. Last new years eve he spent ten days in hospital, diagnosed with heart failure (that's also under control). Since then he hasn't been out ( as well as because of the virus. He went for some blood tests a week ago ( which were fine). That was the first time he's been out, he's 81, by the way. With all that I have still had to go to work since the off ( couldn't wriggle.out of it. I wear a.mask when necessary, even if my bloody glasses keep steaming.up.

Oct 16th in the states are reaching July new case levels. Yet everyone continues to act like we are on a downward trend. Establishments opening up more and ppl going out more. Ugh!

The bad news, another one of my co-workers came back Positive.

But, is he ill?

Appears my co-worker is asymptomatic.

I've really found this thread to be extremely helpful in getting snapshot glimpses of how folks in other places are experiencing this pandemic. My own views are limited by the choices I've made to continue to work, but socially distance in every other way as much as possible.

Ditto, JM. I've limited myself to... next to nothing.

I haven't had a hair cut in six months. Its a bushy mess.

Get Mrs. Solium to give you a Bo Derek. That'll get it out of the way.

Or at least a supertight bun in the back, just like Miss Teschmacher.

We know how easy and fast this spreads especially when people don't wear masks or take any precautions. Keep your distance from others and limit close social interaction.

From your mouth to.... nobody's ears. Still seeing and dodging the Space InvadersĀ©, here.

But at least the mask wearing has gotten more prevalent. Except when I'm near campus, where the youth are as feckless as ever.

The Berkeley Amoeba Music re-opened last week. The cashier thanked me twice for coming in to shop.

The Rasputin Music has not, yet.

And the thought that occurs to me most often these days is, "Has the world changed forever?"

Regal Theaters has thrown in the towel on its bid to reopen, and will shut down all of its theaters in the U.S. and UK on Thursday.

I saw an independent in next-door-city Orinda appear to be opening. I'm curious how they will enforce the social distancing their signs ask for.

But not curious enough to go to a movie.

You people who were out of work, couldn't you help your elderly neighbor mow her lawn or something?

No, you had to boost THIS particular uptick!

I read today that the Prime Minister of England is calling for another lock down.

"Pubs, restaurants, gyms and non-essential shops will have to close for four weeks from Thursday, he said.
But unlike the restrictions in spring, schools, colleges and universities can stay open.
After 2 December, the restrictions would be eased and regions would go back to the tiered system, he said."

Okay my British Buddies, please stay very safe. Visit here often and let us know how all of you are doing.

This is true Joan. They are voting for it in Parliament on Wednesday. There will be some opposition to it by MPs worried about the economy but it will be passed.

It all makes sense of course. You can't play golf, even by yourself on a windy day, but can shop in Sainsbury's amid unmasked shoppers leaning over you to feel your avocado's. And how does "all non-essential shops to close" sit logically next to "take aways (do you hsve them in USA?...... we are talking McDonald's and Pizza) to remain open.??

We are not amused.

But if this saves Christmas (this is how this lockdown is being sold to the public in the UK) then that's great.A big Family Christmas with granny and screaming kids, like our takeaways and our holidays which we all had to have this year are essentials and cannot be missed come hell or high water.
