That video had to have been an outtake "just for the boys", right? Even for 1981 that is retrograde.

Series 7 of the Pertwee era is among Dr Who's best, but after the producers dumped the Liz Shaw character--my second-favorite Dr Who assistant/companion--things went downhill fast. I despise Jo Grant (but not Katy Manning) and Mike Yates (but not Richard Franklin).

Worst of all, I think Pertwee's not standing up to keep Caroline on board was awful; even worse, his rotten treatment of Caroline John in the Five Doctors was despicable.

I'm a Pertwee fan of the first degree. He was 'my' Doctor, but that is awful.

I think I find it even creepier because he says the line straight. He was I'm afraid in one of the Confessions films. Soft porn that followed on from the crassness that was the last few Carry On films. 'Pop Performer' I think it was. Sad then to see him mugging away with some topless 'bird' riding him. But at least he was doing the cross eyed nonsense he did when he was attacked by the Nestene!!!

Not much I know. Neither is it enough to say 'different time', but it is sadly true...

Hilarious! I simply "must" see this cinematic achievement!

Besides, it's got to be better than the bilge that was "Navy Lark."

For fans of “Frontiere in Space” (season 10), find a stylistic homage culled from a British band.

Pleasantly bizarre. Reminds me as much as the I Am the Walrus video contained within the Magical Mystery Tour tv special.

Seems rather British to me.

During this awful time, for the world at large, I'm drinking beer at home instead of in my natural habitat - the pub. One thing that tickled me today was the purchase of two lots of three-for-a-fiver bottled beers. One of the two was 'Inferno'. A lovely pale 'Blonde Ale' https://www.oakhamales.com/core-beers/inferno/.

Also many a Pertwee fan's favourite story from that classic Season 7, a unique season in all of Doctor Who.

I don't recall any FSMer posting on the passing of Geoffrey Palmer.

And who's last Doctor Who was Voyage of the Damned, 2007's Christmas Special with David Tennant and Kylie Minogue. He played the captain of the starship Titanic.

And of course his son is Director Charles Palmer, who himself has directed several new series DWs including the nicely directed Human Nature/Family of Blood.

I'm a member of another Who flavoured forum and they chose to announce Palmer's passing simply with a photo:

Geoffrey Palmer also appeared in “The Mutants”, which I haven’t seen in years, nor have I watched Silurians in a dog’s age.

IIRC, Palmer’s even in on one or both of the commentary tracks, not that he says much. He did seem an affable fellow, though.

Oops! Pardon my faux pas. I should have know, had the dvd for years! But this just shows why the 7th season is so good. It actually looks and feels both more adult and unique. There really isn't another season quite like it. Many for whom Pertwee is not that great a period love this season, and while it's not part of my cosy middle three season favourites, it's still a great years worth of Doctor Who. Classic in fact.

Love The Mutants too. Great alien creatures, even though the guy with long hair and beard near the start with the back that's already slowly turning into a Mutt, always reminds me of the (Palin I think?) character that starts all the Monty Python episodes... "It's........."!

That’s me all over! I much prefer Liz Shaw and that epic seventh series over what followed, with the retrograde Jo Grant, though I don’t dislike Katy Manning.

Pertwee-Lis Sladen is an okay mix, but Lis would find a true complement with Tom.

There is much in what you say. Though I prefer the cosy feel of the three middle seasons there's no denying the interesting situation where there are three fairly distinctive periods within my favourite Doctor's time. Season 7 is more adult and 'straight' laced'. The three middle ones are fun with a great sense of camaraderie. And the third is a season of gradually letting go, with traces of what was to come - the pseudo historical, and the almost gothic feel of the Peladon sequel (by it's nature already initiated of course) and Death to the Daleks.

A better variety than Tom Baker's gothic horror giving over to clowning comedy.

Good point about Liz Shaw though. She and Romana prove that there were perfectly good companions of equal stature to the lead character long before 2005. I'm happier with intelligent conversations between The Doctor and female equal from which the audience can glean information, than with The Doctor explaining everything to her like she, and that audience, is thick!

Sadly both Pertwee and his script editor Terrence Dicks ( great evening with him at those Derby meetings!) preferred the latter...

RIP Damaris Hayman, aka Miss Hawthorne from The Daemons. She was 91. She was still doing Doctor Who conventions towards the end.

Actor Ralph Watson has died aged 85. He appeared in 'The Underwater Menace, The Monster Of Peladon, and Horror Of Fang Rock, but is perhaps most fondly remembered as the ill-fated Captain Knight in The Web Of Fear. Four episodes of this story were returned to the BBC in 2013.
