I'm a Pertwee fan of the first degree. He was 'my' Doctor, but that is awful. I think I find it even creepier because he says the line straight. He was I'm afraid in one of the Confessions films. Soft porn that followed on from the crassness that was the last few Carry On films. 'Pop Performer' I think it was. Sad then to see him mugging away with some topless 'bird' riding him. But at least he was doing the cross eyed nonsense he did when he was attacked by the Nestene!!! Not much I know. Neither is it enough to say 'different time', but it is sadly true...

Pleasantly bizarre. Reminds me as much as the I Am the Walrus video contained within the Magical Mystery Tour tv special.

During this awful time, for the world at large, I'm drinking beer at home instead of in my natural habitat - the pub. One thing that tickled me today was the purchase of two lots of three-for-a-fiver bottled beers. One of the two was 'Inferno'. A lovely pale 'Blonde Ale' https://www.oakhamales.com/core-beers/inferno/. Also many a Pertwee fan's favourite story from that classic Season 7, a unique season in all of Doctor Who. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inferno_(Doctor_Who)

I'm a member of another Who flavoured forum and they chose to announce Palmer's passing simply with a photo: Wot's that then? Sweeney? (without looking)

Wot's that then? Sweeney? (without looking) You're going to kick yourself. He's just carked it in the Silurian pandemic Oops! Pardon my faux pas. I should have know, had the dvd for years! But this just shows why the 7th season is so good. It actually looks and feels both more adult and unique. There really isn't another season quite like it. Many for whom Pertwee is not that great a period love this season, and while it's not part of my cosy middle three season favourites, it's still a great years worth of Doctor Who. Classic in fact. Love The Mutants too. Great alien creatures, even though the guy with long hair and beard near the start with the back that's already slowly turning into a Mutt, always reminds me of the (Palin I think?) character that starts all the Monty Python episodes... "It's........."!

There really isn't another season quite like it. Many for whom Pertwee is not that great a period love this season That’s me all over! I much prefer Liz Shaw and that epic seventh series over what followed, with the retrograde Jo Grant, though I don’t dislike Katy Manning. Pertwee-Lis Sladen is an okay mix, but Lis would find a true complement with Tom. There is much in what you say. Though I prefer the cosy feel of the three middle seasons there's no denying the interesting situation where there are three fairly distinctive periods within my favourite Doctor's time. Season 7 is more adult and 'straight' laced'. The three middle ones are fun with a great sense of camaraderie. And the third is a season of gradually letting go, with traces of what was to come - the pseudo historical, and the almost gothic feel of the Peladon sequel (by it's nature already initiated of course) and Death to the Daleks. A better variety than Tom Baker's gothic horror giving over to clowning comedy. Good point about Liz Shaw though. She and Romana prove that there were perfectly good companions of equal stature to the lead character long before 2005. I'm happier with intelligent conversations between The Doctor and female equal from which the audience can glean information, than with The Doctor explaining everything to her like she, and that audience, is thick! Sadly both Pertwee and his script editor Terrence Dicks ( great evening with him at those Derby meetings!) preferred the latter...
