I am bathing in this cornucopia of music from one of my all time favorites. Waxman is a unique Golden age composer that seemed to be ahead of his time. His themes have been forerunners to everything from "Bali Hai" from SOUTH PACIFIC to JAWS. Only half way through this and I was struck that the main theme to DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE initially sounds so similar to Kaper's MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY. Waxman sometimes uses techniques in the Golden Age that reflect more modern scoring. Gotta love this. Seriously any Golden Age fan who doesn't get this is crazy. And even if you're not normally into the Golden Age, Waxman was generally a composer ahead of his time, and the shockingly good sound quality on the 30s material will make you think it was recorded at least two decades later! Finally, I must point out again that at 11 scores on FOUR packed discs for only $39.99, this is surely the best BARGAIN of a set since I can remember from any of the specialty labels. The set is one of those very rare blind buys for me these days. Yavar I too agree with your comments Yavar. The Waxman Box is a bargain at $39.99! A real treasure trove of music from Waxman, whom I am only slightly familiar with. There is currently a low quantity alert on Intrada's website. I don't know if the low quantity has been around for a while, but I would urge anyone who is contemplating this to take the plunge. It will be well worth it.
