LINE OF DUTY, seasons 1 through 5.

It is a great British series about a group of British detectives who investigate "bent" or corrupt police officers. I admit I get a bit weary of some of the long interrogations, but overall, it is well-acted and an interesting series.

Enjoyed Ratched recently, like to call in on The Last Kingdom often (like last night, Series 3 episode 7 I believe), and though it's not on right now I agree with Joan about Line of Duty. Never miss it.

Paul, I'm hoping we get a season 6 of Line Of Duty. The end of season 5 left some issues open that need development and resolution.

Well you cocksuckers, I started season 2 of Deadwood, brilliant of course. The only thing I'm not keen on is they've changed the look of the picture. In interiors, they now have inky black areas, were as before there was a good greyscale, but I have a spare flatter picture set up on my TV, so I watch it using that.

I started re-watching Future Boy Conan the first anime serie directed by Miyasaki in 1978. This show is a masterpiece and basically contains all the themes the master will develop trhough his career.

The Haunting of Bly Manor -

Another series by Mike Flannagan(series creator here), this is a follow up on his immensely popular horror series The Haunting of Hill House but is not a sequel or continuation. Rather it is loosely based on Henry James "The Turn of the Screw". Much of the previous series cast is here but there is plenty of newcomers as well.

Bly Manor has that same distinct feel and look as Hill House. The cinematography has the crystal clear sheen to it, the sets are wide and airy with a decidedly "set" feel to it rather than lived in, static, no frills camera shots and angles, etc. None of this is a negative by the way to me, it' just his style.

The story is a decidedly slow burn, even for Mike Flannagan. It takes until episode 5 for things to start rolling. The previous 4 eps are character building and hooking you with unanswered questions, punctuated with the occasional BOO scares.

The acting is excellent, in particular T'Nia Miller, who plays the housekeeper. She is gorgeous here and her performance is real and nuanced and I could not take my eyes off of her. The rest of the cast as said is great as well.

Overall, it is certainly not as creepy or scary as Hill House and it is more focused on the relationships between the characters. But I think it is a worthwhile effort and look forward to any other future "Haunting" series that Flannagan throws our way.

7 out 10

I'm four episodes into S2 of Deadwood, & so far it's not as good as season one. Not enough action & too much talk & suffering (poor old Al Swearengen having that big metal prod pushed up his willy...twice!). Anyway, I'm sure it'll get better.

Peaky Blinders

Never seen it and never heard any spoilers, done three episodes, it's good but I'm not fully engaged by it. The accents feel all over the place on a word by word or vowel by vowel basis. It's fine. I heard it gets amazing. Still not sure how I feel about the music.

Yes Bill, I've watched the first 2 episodes, and I really like it. Nicole Kidman is always great. Nice to see Hugh Grant again. He has aged but is still good. Acting is fine. It is a murder mystery and is based on a novel I read that was very good. Note how well Kidman, as a psychiatrist, can read her patients. Can she read her own life? Can't say anymore about this. No spoilers. You should watch it. Loved how the first episode used a lot of the music from my favorite part of Vivaldi's Four Seasons Winter.

Watched with my fast forward button at times The Third Day with Jude Law. As my British Buddy Bill would say, it is "utter tosh." Avoid it.

Which do ya mean, the show, or Al's willy, eh?

Seen all of Blinders and it's good. Nearing the end of Last Kingdom and it's great, but I could do with more emotional attachment. But they sort of keep dollops of history and I like it for that.

Really want to watch Bly Manor but that wife sees 'horror' and says "no!" lol. No matter how many times I've told her it's not supposed to be anywhere nearly as scary as Hill House.

Thinking of Alienists, and The Queen's Gambit. The latter seems very much like the lovely Belinda's thing, and could get me into just persuading her to watch Bly Manor out of the corner of her eye....

Thanks Joan. Im just about to try episode one Undoing.

Opening few mins of Undoing "...its never a good idea to take measure of ourselves through the eyes of the joyless.."

Yes, i saw 5 minutes of that jude thing - that was enough. was only ever gonna be 2nd division wicker man. I find myself knowing whats good n bad these days quite quickly and save myself a lot of wasted time. You are right, utter tosh. But i threw in a f****** in the middle, it was that bad. lol big grin
