Speaking of hospitals: is there really so much repetitive intercom chatter on the hallways in US hospitals as there is/ was in TV series?
As soon as you enter a hospital in a film, it's: "Doctor X to proctomaternity warble. Doctor X to proctomaternity warble".

War films that use real war footage. When I see a planes fiery crash I know I'm witnessing a real pilots horrible death. It takes me completely out of the film.

Agreed. It reminds me of an old Bloom Country strip where the gang turns on the tv and sees an explosion and they all wonder whether what they are watching is fictitious or if it is live news coverage, and the end panel has one of the characters say something like "can someone please tell me if I can enjoy this?"

Yep, those were the words I couldn't think of ealier, "can someone please tell me if I can enjoy this?"

Just saw this in Altered States. Two love birds flirt by talking science to one another. Yeah, I don't think that's how it goes down.

But Eddie and Emily ARE scientists! What else would they talk about? wink

Haha, yeah, I guess I didn't make that clear. Same thing if two doctors flirt. It's always over some medical jargon.

But at this point, everyone in those old war movies are also dead, so it's one big snuff film. You're sick, fella.

LMAO! Now that was funny.

Reminds me of an entry in Ebert's Little Movie Glossary, titled "Grim Reaping", which refers to watching older movies and tallying up the number of cast members who have died in the years or decades since.

When characters (military, police or other) are planning some operation and scribbling on map with permanent markers.

People get into cars and don't notice the driver is a baddie or someone who they know is the baddie but don't recognize them.

...a black or female character time travels back to an era where racism/sexism was abundant and ugly, and yet walks around with nary a care in the world, barely receiving a second glance from denizens of that time period? Bonus points if they talk back to or punch out someone harassing them with old-timey prejudices, and never get arrested or worse. TV's DC's Legends Of Tomorrow is a good example of this, the show's "woke" multi-cultural cast blithely walking around in eras where their race or sexual orientation would be at best frowned upon and never receive more than a stray curious look from the background extras.

Having people of color in European fairy tales or mystical places like Asgard. And before someone calls me out as a racists it would be just as nonsensical to have white people living in Wakanda. Still, let the personal attacks begin!

Having random black characters in Disney's recent live-action Cinderella was particularly distracting. "But-but-but...diversity!" doesn't hack it when it's set in a time and place where there would have been no black people (or, if so, merely as "servants" or worse). And the Black Panther example is a good one, because you wouldn't have seen random Caucasian faces sprinkled throughout crowd shots in Wakanda. And you know there won't be any white people in Mulan, but you'll see plenty of random black and Asian faces in any movie with a primarily "white" setting, especially period movies.

Yeah, I rolled my eyes when I saw those scenes in Cinderella. According to Hollywood minorities get to have their culture but whites must co-op theirs.

Is..."Blackmail" really such an ugly word? (just how many films have people said that).

This is an easy one. When they reuse footage from science fiction films. Roger Corman the ring leader. How many times did he reuse the special effects from Battle Beyond the Stars? It seems footage from Battlestar Galactica (TOS) and Space 1999 were also reused quite a bit.

They play Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit whenever there is a drug taking scene.

Whenever there is an attack on a stronghold by gunman/police whatever, after the first guards are shot, the whole building would be alerted. But as the attackers move from room to room, despite more gunshots, in each subsequent room, have they grabbed their weapons ready? No! they are still messing with the coffee pot or still playing cards or watching a football match on tv, and get shot easily, coz they only react and reach for weapons as the attackers come in the room.
Ive seen this so many times.

Classic example in Predator, when after several minutes' worth of noisy action, Arnie kicks open the door of a room with two guys just sitting there, and is like, "Knock-knock!" before blowing them away.

when a bad guy (or even a good guy) jumps from a fire escape or roof
into a dumpster, it is always filled with bags of old clothing, couch cushions
or other soft material. It's never ever filled with old pitchforks, metal shards
or rusty razor blades.

Yup, you don't need superhero's when every lead in every action film can do stuff & take punishment that would kill anyone else ten times over. It's been a few years since I've seen it (& I probably won't see it again), but in Die Hard 4 Bruce Willis survives one deadly encounter after another, & then at the end, shoots himself so the bullet will pass through him & kill the baddie standing behind him...& then is seen joking with the medics! Oh, & all those punches in the face & never a bruise or swelling.

>>Don't try this at home folks<<

That gives me an excellent opportunity to promote this FAB YT-channel (I have no personal stake in this chanel, just a satisfied customer):
