Decathalon and Femke Bol aside, it's all been the US and the Caribbean winning the medals tonight. Not good for European athletics.

Fixed that for you.

We watched Scottie Scheffler win the gold in golf. Yay.

Noah Lyles wins the 100m again! Impressive, after a poor start. I was convinced the Jamaican had it. 5 thousands of a second difference!

Reigning Olympic champions Mol & Sørum from Norway through to the quarter finals in beach volleyball, after beating the US team!

Poor from GB in the athletics so far. The sprinters came to nothing (as usual) and our much fancied pole vaulter hasn't even made the final. Just a bronze from the mixed relay so far. Hopeful that the cyclists can pull it out of the bag this week.

And then there's the matter of Norway vs GB in the 1500m tomorrow, Thor!

Yeah, that will be tense! If I was a betting man, I would bet my money on Kerr, but my heart is with Ingebrigtsen, of course.

Congrats to the UK today, with Keely Hodgkinson's win in the 800m.

BUT.....how about that Armand Duplantis? ANOTHER world record in pole vault at 6.25! Insane. I've grown up with Sergei Bubka's "unbeatable" record, and after Villenie first took it, Duplantis has upped it into another echelon altogether. Sweden is very lucky to have "adopted" this guy from the US.

Sweden, by the way, has a whopping 8 medals now, out which 3 are gold. Denmark has two - one gold and one silver. Norway has one gold medal. It's embarassing. But at least we're ahead of Finland and Iceland.

Yup, thank goodness for Keely!

These Olympic Games are sweet vindication for Simone Biles, who endured cruel derision in Tokyo during her crisis there. Her success in Paris allows her to tell those people to stick it where the sun don’t shine.

Yeah, absolutely disaster for Ingebrigtsen. I understand his tactic -- going hard to wear out those that are better sprinters than him, like Kerr and Hocker, but ultimately he just tired out himself, and Kerr and Hocker were still there to pass him. And Nuguse. So not even a medal. Enormous bummer, and USA comes out victorious again. I don't find Kerr the most sympathetic man in the world, so kinda glad he didn't win (sorry, Brits).

I hope Jakob is able to recover to the 5000 meter semis tomorrow. If he's still in shape, he's more of a favourite there than in the 1500. Normally.

Kerr was smiling at the end but he'll feel very hollow. He was our great hope of this Olympics. He wanted gold. We're all massively disappointed how that panned out.

I can't see where any other athletic gold is coming from for us. Thank goodness for Keely. frown

I forgot to say, Jakob lost the Olympic record to Hocker too. So the absolute worst of all circumstances. Fudge!

At least he has another chance of gold. Josh doesn't.

On to the women's 200m final but I have little hope. Can't see us getting even a bronze in this. Our Dina Asher-Smith is forever hyped for the 100 and 200 but has never medalled individually at the Olympics. Last chance saloon as she'll be 33 at the next Olympics.

We finished 4th and 5th. Disappointing end to the sprints. No medals.

Yeah, Gabby Thomas was in a class of her own. Alfred was probably a bit tired after the 100 win and other heats. I've heard that Asher-Smith has struggled with injuries this year. Might explain why she wasn't up there.

She's run much faster than 22.22 so she'll be massively disappointed.

Just rewatched Chariots off TCM. Paris Olympics 1924. Fantastic.

And TCM has the Criterion restoration of the 1924 films. I watched the actual races won by Harold Abrahams, Jackson Scholz and Eric Liddell with close-ups of each winner post-race. But there was no color! No slo-mo! No Lord Lindsay finishing second in the hurdles! No Vangelis, just a piano! It is shocking to see the real deal after all these decades with Ben Cross, Brad Davis and Ian Charleson so ingrained in the mind's eye. Oh but it was neat seeing the actual Prince of Wales...

Another medal for Norway, bronze in the female's sailing.

That's cool, but I've never been able to relate to sailing, I'm afraid. I think I generally have an issue with sports where the "object" does seemingly more work than the person (sailing, horse sports, car sports etc.).
