Thanks Yavar. I'm always forgetting what's on the Fox Box.
Also, due to Graham's constant bullying of me (PlayThis!!, Get That!!, You're Not Worthy To Live!!...ETC), I'm now listening to STUDS LONIGAN, to see what I think about it, all these years later.
It's how I remember it.
Some nice, typical early years Goldsmith (TZ, Patch Of Blue, Lilies Of The Field style harmonica tenderness) coupled with some Jerry trying to be Elmer jazzy blasts.
And then there's those blasting honky-tonk style beats. They're fun...IF YOU'RE SEVENTY!!! wink
Is that the theme from JUSTINE I just heard?
I'll be honest, I did just enjoy that near 30 minute trip down memory lane.
It wasn't as annoying as I remember.
But I'm going to play some proper Goldsmith stuff now, so you can keep those Cock Eyed ID shenanigans.

Hey Kev, I must admit that STUDS LONIGAN is possibly my least favourite out of the Goldsmiths of that era. I mentioned it more because of a similarity between parts of it and FACE OF A FUGITIVE than a direct comparison between the scores' listening merits. There's a sort of bluesy resolve to one of the themes which both share, which is actually also a bit like the bluesy, downtrodden bits in the Twilight Zone scores you mention.

Wow just seen this - you can hear Jerry's career was just gonna boom from this early-stage this being a very beautiful western that will stand proud beside my Paramount set which I adore too. Many thanks Intrada.

I only really hear the similarity with one Twilight Zone score: The Big Tall Wish (my favorite!)

I love Studs Lonigan and it's my favorite of Jerry's pre-Lonely Are the Brave output, but I guess it's not for everyone!

Heads up -- Intrada has this release back in stock now, along with Silvestri's Back to the Future, Horner's Cocoon and 48 Hrs. (remastered), and four other Goldsmith titles: The Public Eye, Chinatown, The Mummy, and Rambo - First Blood Part II.

Also I figured this thread was worth a bump, seeing as how Intrada is on the verge of releasing Jerry Goldsmith's very first western score (actually, very first feature film score, period!) in the next few weeks, and it bears a lot in common with Face of a Fugitive which was written and recorded the following year. So for anyone here who enjoyed Fugitive, here's a substantial preview of their new Royal Scottish National Orchestra recording of Goldsmith's Black Patch:

Graham, did you ever end up checking out the movie Face of a Fugitive?

Yavar
