It’s a pretty forgettable score, IMO. Some great writing with exotic orchestrations (think Waterworld) and an “interesting” use of electronics, which was rather distracting instead of complimenting. Once the score was finished I couldn’t remember anything I just heard. Gonna wait till after I see the film to make a final judgment.
Anyone else find it strange that there is no composer credit on the official album cover?
What Official Album? I don't see any. A download is no "Official Album" where I come from.

Got it Johnny. There is no credit because Disney does not care obviously. Who does?- it's a friggin download and it makes no difference at all that JNH name not on it. I would not be surprised if it becomes the norm for downloads. To not put JNH on CD is just wrong!
Saw the film and damn Thor was spot on in his review. I'll have to do my own review. I have more criticisms of the film, but its harmless entertainment, nothing really objectionable with a few bright spots.
I saw the movie last night and the music in the "Running On Raindrops" scene was very memorable and effective. The movie looked and sounded great in Dolby Cinema and is worth the extra effort and cost in seeing it in this format, IMO. Here's the track:
I just found a clip of the scene itself. This scene is spectacular and pretty magical on the big screen, especially when seen in Dolby Cinema. The theatre I went to in Orange, CA had a very big screen; about as big as the screens of the movie palaces where movie musical roadshows had their exclusive engagements decades ago. The picture is bright because the Dolby Cinema process uses two projectors at the same time. The sound was immersive and had a smooth, wide frequency range too.

My favorite cue in the score. Wish there was more like this, but you take what you can in 2021.
The movie is charming, fun and just downright enjoyable. And I did not know anything about it, including the composer prior to seeing it. However, during the course of the film, I noticed how front and center the score was and the style and use of liet motifs, melodies, etc, caught my attention and I suspected JNH and sure enough...
This is such a great score, the most memorable and enjoyable to me in such a long time. And it works so well with the film.
I don't see that there is a physical CD avail for purchase though. The film did take the top spot this past week, though that isn't saying much given that AMC is till limiting its seating, thankfully.
Maybe it's because of the big Asian influence subject matter, but I keep thinking (hoping?) that this film score will get a physical CD release in Japan. They saved the day on FROZEN II, amongst others. I'll keep checking Ark Square in the coming months.
I'm afraid Mulan and Soul were the last ones to get a CD release. And I'm very dissapointed by that. It seems Disney is even more interested in Vinyl these days.
Just sat back and gave this a proper listen. The high points are great and recall classic JNH (very Waterworld/Last Airbender like at times). Not so mad about the percussion/ethnic mash up, but there's certainly plenty in here to have a great time with. Here's my 'Tracks That Stood Out' playlist so far...

Runs to about 38 minutes. I was heartened to hear that Running On Raindrops melody used a lot more than I first thought after this proper listen.
