So ... Leo Nicols and wayoutwest came out of hibernation. smile

With my recent acquisitions of La Notte Brava & Islam, I now have more than 100 Piccioni scores in my collection.

How much Piccioni does Leo have?

Hi Zardoz,
That's a great collection you have !
I may have about 30 Piccioni 'titles
The main composer I collect is Morricone I've quite a few of his titles among various other composers.
Just bought 'Il Disprezzo' and 'Camille 2000' by Piccioni which are truly excellent !

Nice to hear from you again.
Leo.

On Beat records website

"Beat Records presents for the first absolute time on CD the complete edition of the soundtrack by Piero Piccioni for “L’Italia vista dal cielo""

This is quite confusing because it makes no mention of the fine Saimel CD which I have. What is going on here?

You have to keep in mind that these are not the same scores as those which are on the Saimel CD. The Saimel CD only contained those Piccioni scores from the ITALIA VISTA DAL CIELO epsiodes from the early 70s which were owned by General Music and nothing else. So it is completely diffferent music!
I must say that I personally like the two scores for "Emilia Romagna e Marche" (1968) and "Sicilia" (1970) even better than the other ones. These two now come from the CAM archives and have never been on CD before - only two tracks had been available on former CAM CML library LPs during the early 70s. So this is a wonderful new CD release for which I have waited for a long time.
Especially the main theme from "Emilia Romagna e Marche" is so lovely and will immediately remind you of Piccioni´s MORE THAN A MIRACLE main theme.
Both episodes can also be found on Youtube.

Methinks this will be Leo's 31st Piccioni album.

I can only speak for myself, but I really enjoy the extra music.
It's one of the few scores I could listen to over and over again and never tire of.
Plus the sound quality is absolutely superb !

OK, Leo ... you persuaded me to put that 3-CD Beat edition on my wish list.
Throughout the years, I tended to ignore those Alberto Sordi titles especially since soundtracks from Toto' movies have pleased me more.

Nope, I haven't got that Sordi, either - yet.
I'll attempt to get these sometime during this summer, but they're not priorities with me.

I'm so glad that I bought Islam, though. Islam is worthy of a thread of its own, IMO, because it's rather unique within the Piccioni discography. Islam doesn't resemble typical TV music; it flows more like an orchestral suite - as if written for concert performance.

I'm liking La notte brava, too - even more than Il mondo di notte.

Since the "Piccioni-philes" seem to be out in force today smile I want to mention the Four Flies LP release of "Tre Notti D'Amore". I picked this up a month or two back and it is a revelation. I've had the CAM CD for many years and considered it to be "middle-of-the-road" Piccioni, but I now think my opinion was colored by CAM's mastering, which I guess I would describe as "indifferent."

The Four Flies release just pops! And as usual, their pressing of the LP is superlative. Once I got this recorded to CD-R, I've had it in heavy rotation around here. The LP does not include the tracks by Fusco and Rustichelli (except for "Mistico Amore") but has 4 Piccioni tracks that are not on the CAM CD ("Titoli," "Seq. 1," "Seq. 2" and "Come On Rome #2." ).

Earlier this year Four Flies put out a vinyl 7" of Piccioni's "Right Or Wrong"/"Once And Again" -- along with a few essential releases by other Italian composers. (Their expanded 2-LP release of Umiliani's "La Schiava Io Ce L'Ho E Tu No" is a must if you're a fan of that "Mah Nà Mah Nà" sound! ) Very limited pressings, but I believe that at the moment, these are all still available.
