To -William DDCCrum-just watch your film from You Tube, great stuff, now that the great man is gone, these things that were done on him are even more special.

Thanks, Neo! Ruud tried to sell some books last night by issuing business cards to anybody he saw admiring the book we had with us (we weren't allowed to have an official stall). Oddly enough, it seemed everybody he approached already had a copy!

I took a card off him too ( I have the book ), I didn't know it was Ruud?

I was one of the people who already had the book Geoff (and rather wonderful it is too, anyone without one should defintely invest in a copy!), but I did appreciate the card: it will make a nice bookmark in my copy! smile

Gosh, you are not saying the businesscard is going to be a collector's item too? Then I have hundreds! Maybe I should sell them on ebay, haha!

Pity. we saw so many people. Which moment exactly was this? I tried to be discrete at The Gore with the card though put a few on the bar. Also "accidentally" dropped a few at the RAH and walked around with the book in my arms like a Salvation Army person selling their mag. I saw people watching but everybody moved on.

A real pity that you weren't allowed to have some for sale inside the Royal Albert Hall on Monday.

I'm sold. Looking forward to reading this legendary tome.

Edit: While at the memorial concert I had to stop at the table where the programmes were being sold, prior to entering the circle. I picked one up and gave it a moment's thought. It was either the programme or the book, but not both. I reluctantly put down the programme and went into the auditorium, rather blind.

the last minute where groovy Christmas gift considerations are concerned ..."

Oh, and Geof, that recent 'slow-selling book' quip was quite cute. wink

I do my best, Neo!

It occurred to me that a copy of The Black Hole will be costing UK residents more than a copy of the book - so I thought it worth mentioning. Not that I'm comparing the two in any way, of course!

Thanks, this thread keeps reminding me that I really need to start reading the book, which isn't a bad thing.

It consequently also keeps reminding me that I need more of John Barry's soundtracks. Which really isn't a bad thing either.

The holidays are comin’, folks, so here’s another subtle-as-an-A-bomb reminder if you still haven’t put this tome into yer stocking, time’s a’wastin’.

(Und finally, Rudd & Geoff, we’ll hopefully be able to send you our brilliantly-belated order anon, also, so please reserve
a copy for us in the Fort Knox golden chambers, deal)? wink

As for those who’ve already obtained their copy, we have a question (especially if you purchased it’s predecessor): how did you find this labor of love and how does it expand, enhance and enlarge the previously-impressive achievement that came before it?

Same here. I've been picking up a lot more of his stuff lately. I've turned my wife into a fan and I've gotten her trained to recognize his sound. smile

The book is a fascinating in depth insight into the film music industry, a colossal tome (over 300 pages) on Barry's musical life, a wonderful, well designed, sometimes intimate, chronical commentary and examination of his career. The book is bulging with facts, figures, anecdotes, quotations, observations and an incisive musical appreciative postscript by Terry Walstrom, a perfect stocking filler for all John Barry fans.

There won't be anything like it ever again.

Its a great book. My wife bought it for me four yrs ago and I often pick it and have a read! And usually whilst listening to The Maestro himself!
