It's a bit odd that only a tiny fraction of what has been released by FSM/La La Land/Ryko/Rhino/Intrada/Kritzerland/Quartet/MBR et al. is available as downloads. Does the download option require additional clearance fees?

If not it would be a nice additional income for the studios. The downloads would need more promotion and a previously unavailable title thrown in every now and then.

Would ne nice but most studios don't seem to be bothered, I think the revenue stream is miniscule compared to the clearances and cost involved.

Also the pesky matter of 3rd party titles (which are numerous) complicates things.

Seems only MGM and Disney retain perpetual rights to their titles, other studios seem quite happy to sell them off to record labels which makes digital releases by the studios themselves unlikely / impossible.

A few years ago Paramount partnered with LLL to release a 10 title batch, but that deal has seemingly come to nothing (and a few of those initial titles have subsequently been removed from distribution).
