There is some very good music that came after the golden age . John Williams being the best example. His compositions being better than very good. The same goes for Jerry Goldsmith and Bill Conti. No one however can beat Miklos Rozsa. He reigns SUPREME !
Cody was the only kid in his school who didn't watch The Beatles on Ed Sullivan ( Feb. 1964). He watched NOW, VOYAGER on the Million Dollar Movie instead.
You're partially right. Sunday night was THE STEVE ALLEN SHOW with such names as Louis Nye, Tom Poston and Bill Dana. Million Dollar Movie in the Big Apple would more likely be GUNGA DIN and KING KONG than a Bette Davis weeper.

I know that. But a Bette Davis week weepie is funnier than KONG.

Who told you I like comedies ? Film noir and epics were my "meat and potatos". Bette Davis was good dramatically when playing a bitch. The original OF HUMAN BONDAGE being a classic . I suppose horror is more your speed...WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE ? and HUSH HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE. Your knowledge of good film music probably matches your knowledge of great cinema. Are you one of those who would like to see a box-set of all the music from Gilligan's Island ? Don't be afraid to tell the truth. There is a label who will fulfill your wishes if enough people agree with you.

I guess I hafta explain it to you:
NOW VOYAGER makes for a funnier JOKE...not.its a funnier FILM. than KK.

OK, I get it ! Now tell me if the music of Gilligan's Island is something that would interest you. I want to know if there is hope for you. Would you prefer Gilligan's Island music to Rozsa's BLOOD ON THE SUN, BRUTE FORCE,THE NAKED CITY or THE KILLERS among others ? Then perhaps your whole mission on this board is just to be a clown. If that's the case there is no need for me to reply.
Btw I hafta introduce you to my friend Steve Vertlieb. He's a huge Rozsa fan ( see my article in FSMO " A FESTIVAL OF FILM MUSIC")
I know of Steve Vertlieb. I remember reading about the time he spent with Mr.Rozsa. I was in awe. We share a friend on Facebook also. Now most important of all, I want to apologize to Jesper and Plantsounds for hijacking their thread. I love beautiful melodic film music and if you , the readers on this board, love that kind of music, please purchase VALHALLA from Plantsounds or Screen Archives. You won't be sorry you did.
Almost 9 months into the year and the most beautiful melodic premiere release of any soundtrack so far this year is a total delight to listen to. Looking upward, thank you Ron Goodwin. Thank you Jesper of PlantSounds for releasing this beauty and thank you SAE for getting it to me from coast to coast in 3 days.

Strange, that a CD sent by PlantSounds to SAE and then needing to be reshipped to a customer on the other side of the country should get there faster than a CD ordered direct from the label. I'm jealous. Still, good to read the positive response to it.

Yes, and I remember being admonished by a member to buy directly from the label. Anyway, my sincerest thanks to Jesper for getting it across the pond so fast.
It is indeed a lovely score. I have a nostalgic connection to the film; one of my earlier cinemagoing experiences (it was probably just as big in Norway as it was in Denmark), but no memory of the score. So it was great to reconnect to this; a classic adventure score.
I'm surprised it hasn't garnered more attention from US members with a preference for the traditional.
Props to Cody. I ordered direct like always and have not received a shipping notice, nor any reply to my e-mails on status of order. Like Basil- Jesper making me look like a "twit" even more. Hey Jesper- why don't you take care of your direct-pre-order CUSTOMERS FIRST! I want my damn CD!
